Richard Benoit - In my experience 90% of all modern boxers movement is wasted dancing and prancing around. If you look at the classic flat footed boxers (ie. Joe Lewis, Dempsey, Gentleman Jim Corbet, etc..) they were pretty much doing a modernized form of Xingyi. I was once a boxer also. I observed one fight between a very good boxer and an assailant and the boxer hit the guy over 12 times in the face and he still was standing. Any of the aforementioned greats could send a guy to the canvas comatose with a boxing glove. I also fought Muay Thai in Bangkok for three years. One day for the heck f it I sent a guy flying into the ropes with a Hsing-i hit. The Thai boxers were unable to replicate the strike because they hold their guard too high (old school boxers had a much lower guard and incidentaly, most came from the "school" of street fighting). Then again when was the last time you observed a Thai boxer knocking someone out with a punch?

Also street fights are not boxing matches or MMA throw downs. Most of the time in a street fight you don't have time to get your guard up as the opponent will try to surprise you. Now I will be the first to admit that boxing, even modern boxing will impart many skills to help you win in a street fight (incidentally so will all other martial arts) but one has to look at an art much more objectively rather than to assume your style will just automatically lay down the smack on all others in and of itself (talking to Gracie Jiu Jistsu wanna be's comes to mind , and for the record I spent three years in one of their schools also) I was humbled by being knocked flat by a Brazilian Capoeira stylist once. The Hsing-i presented in this video is the same old "shove" move that exist in countless others across the web. The beauty of Hsing-i is that the practitioner will adapt the style to his particular self and come up with a dynamic fighting method that works best for him. My style is a close range trap and smash style and I can tell you that it is effective against modern boxers as well as Muay Thai boxers. Boxers suck in Muay Thai fights and Muay Thai guys suck in western boxing matches because each is out of their element. Unless you practice your art under realistic circumstances (not kickboxing matches) anyone will be out of their element in the 15 second to finish world of street fighting. Peace.

The only thing I see that i fake about the video is the student overreacting to the Sifu I hate when students do that that makes people think that the Art is fake and it is not.

Xing I Quan is an Internal Martial Art,so is anyone trying to compare this to any other style other then internal martial art? is philosophy is not to move fast when you practice but to develop internal energy ,that is the first objective ,someone that has no idea how internal styles work can not just look at moves in a form and decide if it works or not lol empty your cup people,stop thinking you know it all just because you took some lessons hahaha

I know this is an old comment, but Xingyiquan is primarily a WAR style. It was adapted from spear fighting and many manuals primarily place it's fighting purpose first and foremost. The "internal" is applicable across all kung fu styles, not just the big 3.

Woch xing yi quan's style is this? Why is different from the other xing yi quan videos? Is this five elements form or twelve animals?Or both, maybe?
@ukguy

Yes it is both 5 elements and 12 animals. There are lots of variations of xing yi from different families so they all vary slightly.

@@ukguy thank you, for the quick response. I liked this variation a lot. Seems more practical then the most famous variation( I don't know the family's name, but you see this vsriation a lot here on youtube).

The first guy in red is doing Shanxi style Hsing I, he runs through the five elements and then some of the animal forms. I learned this exact style. Not far enough in though to recognise what the older guy in white is doing.

How in the heck can anyone rag on hsing I it's the foundation of real martial arts? Wonderful kung-fu video sir.

Simple, if an art is taught just through the use of doing forms you can't ever fight with it. There are a lot of fighting skills that can ONLY be learned against a live, resisting, non cooperative opponent. That's why "sport" fighting tends to be so much more effective in the real world, it can actually be trained correctly so that you can learn the elements that can only be learned "live".
