I love the Stratoliner, it is one of the most beautiful bikes made IMO. I own a 2007 Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe and love it. It's a great bike for touring. I've been riding 25 years and I rode nothing but Harleys until I bought the Royal Star. Glad I did, I'm enjoying the hell out of it and she's been rock-solid reliable, 50k miles on her and about 55k I predict by November when I store it for the winter.

Let's keep it real. 😮 The Japanese motorcycles are built and are known for their reliability and durability. They are cheaper to maintain and have fewer "headaches" than any Harley Davidson products any day! Harleys tend to be more costly, but the quality and reliability are not there in comparison to the Japanese bikes (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, or a Kawasaki).

I have said the same thing many times. In fact, HD got buried long before the 06 Strat debuted. Kawasaki's first 1500 Vulcan was four valve, dual plug, liquid cooling not to mention dual carb - and that was in 1986!

I like harley, but they are not made for taller riders. I ride 2up most the time and my natural foot position is 3-4 inches off the front of the harley floorboards. seems like everyone else builds a longer criuser with better ergonomics for 2up riding.
@POPPASHANGO

Agreed My Raider fits me nice at 6'2". I ride 2up with my wife and we've got space between us. The Road Glide was my 2nd choice.. But I sat on a Street Glide and it felt like a toy bike. Way smaller than a Raider. I figured the Road Glide wasn't mich different other than the gauges being a little further away. That killed it for me. I will say that the Yamaha Transcontinental looks pretty sweet though. Might trade up to that when we start taking longer trips.

Again and again, I often wonder how Japan, a small country overseas could produce several motorcycles that are in a segment they didn't start, they don't own, isn't a part of their historical culture, and do it much less expensively, with better technology and horsepower and reliability, and import those bikes into the USA whooping the butt of a company that's deeply rooted here. What does that say about Japan's manufacturing prowess and what does that say about Harley Davidson corporation?

For something like that you'd want to buy the Yamaha venture, same motor as a stratoliner / roagliner but you get all the fancy stuff like navigation, cruise control satellite radio, a reverse function, it's also got a 6 speed gearbox vs the 5speed that stratoliners have
