Guys like Dwight Howard don't have fundamentals, but Shaq, in his prime, had one of the best drop steps. And, thank you for making your bold point about Shaq not doing much at the end of his career. Would you like to know how Hakeem Olajuwon did during his last few seasons? Duncan is 35 years old. Shaq, at 33, won his 4th ring. At 34, he lifted Miami LITERALLY on his shoulders and led them on a 10 game winning streak when Wade was out. At 35, with PHX, he was the best center in the league.

Wow, going down memory lane. I do remember Yao Ming’s NBA debut back in ‘03 or ‘02 being a big deal here in the U.S. It was history in the making. Idk any of the sports media here expected him to do well in the NBA and make the big transition. If I remember correctly, I think he was the first Chinese basketball player to be drafted that high in the NBA. It’s too bad his career in the NBA was cut short.

I said arguably. Do you expect Shaq to have that many assists when his prime was with the Lakers, a triangle-based philosophy? Heck, he had more than Fisher at one point. Of course Shaq was brutal in the post, and I can name plenty of centers with his strength. The fact is that you're dismissing his footwork, which is what he's been widely known for. Even on his decline, he was one of the best at spinning past his defenders. "Black Tornado." That is, in fact, his signature.

I have. He destroyed the Twin Towers the 02 playoffs. I've seen Shaq play with the Magic, and I even saw every Laker game during the 3peat. As for Hakeem, the Rockets made the right choice by picking him instead of MJ (MJ is still the GOAT). Not once has Big Ben ever had the upper-hand. In the 04 Finals, Shaq grabbed 20 rebounds with 36 points, but LA still lost because Kobe couldn't do anything productive that series. Hakeem was in his prime, and Ewing and Mourning came around the same time.

as far as people saying Shaq was just 'big' so he overpowered people.. Oliver Miller, Stanley Roberts, Sagana Diop and even Big Country Reeves and Arvydas Sabonis were all plus sized athletes and Shaq dominated against them.. Ben Wallace, Zo, Dwight Howard are all strong dudes and Shaq dominated against all of them
@apexpwner1145
9 жыл бұрын
Shaq was 7'1" and his weight ranged from 330-350, he was huge. He used it to his advantage, as no one in his era or argurably any era, had the combination of his height, weight, strength, and athleticism. Oliver Miller had a height disadvantage, he was 4 inches shorter. Stanley Roberts was 284 pounds, so he was like 50-70 pounds lighter than Shaq. Diop was 280, so again a weight disadvantage of 50-70 pounds. Reeves was 40-60 pounds lighter. Sabonis again 40-60 pounds lighter. ..All of those players you listed still had a big disadvantage of size compared to Shaq. Also, these players were not good, so what is the point of bringing them up? Also, Ben Wallace was 6 inches shorter (Wallace was really 6'7") and 240 pounds...No wonder that a guy 6 inches taller and 100+ pounds heavier would dominate against him. Alonzo Mourning was 3 inches shorter and he was also about 100 pounds lighter than Shaq. Dwight Howard, was not even in his prime when he played Shaq and he was very young and his body hadn't developed yet. Howard was also 2-3 inches shorter than Shaq and about 80 pounds lighter aswell. All of these guys you listed had a BIG disadvantage in size still. Shaq didn't have a lot of skill. He relied on his God given talent a lot. That's why he didn't dominate when he got old. He didn't have the athleticism he used to. So, instead of like Jordan, Malone, Kareem, Dirk, Kobe, etc when they got old, they dominated because of their high skill level, which Shaq did not have. I have watched Shaq and it usually consists of: Picking on shorter, much lighter big men. Backing them down in the paint. Converts easy lay up or dunk. If not that, he dribbles close into the paint for an easy hook shot. If you can't stop it, Shaq is doubled team and passes it to open player. Or, he is hacked. Shaq didn't have a high skill level. His post moves were mediocre. He didn't have a consistent post move he could beat you with. He wasn't a good free throw shooter. He didn't have a jump shot. I don't blame him though. If I was that big, I would do this too. But, that is all what Shaq did basically. Overpower his opponents...
@apexpwner1145
9 жыл бұрын
Apexpwner11 Also, in the video, you see that Shaq struggled mightily against a more lengthy basketball player. Shaq is used to being heavier and taller than everyone, but not that day. Shaq tried to do his usual tactics against smaller defenders, but it didn't work. Yao got a lot blocks and obviously forced him out of his comfort zone. If Shaq was skillfull, he would of adapted and used post moves to best Yao, but of course he didn't. He simplh tried to overpower him and tried to shoot over him, which did not work.
@RickyMoss
9 жыл бұрын
actually, Oliver Miller was heavier than Shaq, how come he didn't average 29 and 12 during any point of his career.. yes SHaq struggled with 31 and 10 ..LOL..and he was more than likely tossing up bricks from the foul line.. imagine if he shot at leastw 70% from the FT line there would be absolutely NO way to stop him he average 40ppg

Kobe ain't dominating shit right now, he's on a Lakers team that has been losing the last 2 years (near the bottom worst record) because he chased out all the big men (Shaq, Howard, Pau, Bynum and well I can see why they got rid of Kwame) Malone didn't have any legs left when he played for the Lakers Shaq was still averaging at least 15 and 10 up until his last year in the league with the Celtics and thats because he was on limited minutes due to injjury

Also, I'm not denying that Shaq did not have future hall of famers. Learn to read, and then learn to form a complete sentence. I said that Bill Russell had 8 hall of famers in ONE season, while he only had to face against 12 teams. Karl Malone was watered down anyway. In Shaq's 4th ring, he won with one of THE most mediocre teams, EVER. During his first season with Miami, he was 2nd in the MVP race (behind Nash), and it's because of the dominance he brought.

Shaq averaged 2.5 APG in his career. Wilt averaged 7.8 and 8.6 in 2 consecutive seasons. Shaq didn't have amazing footwork. Kareem's go-to move was the sky hook. Shaq's? Pound his ass inside and destroy any other double team trying to contain him. Point is, he was just so much physically stronger than everyone. Name 1 person in Shaq's prime that was anywhere close to as strong and as heavy as Shaq was. Tell me what Shaq's signature move was? Besides bullying his way inside then passing it out?

Lol I've seen Hakeem live, he might be the greatest center ever. What's your point? Shaq still belongs in the same category because he has the mixture of fundamentals, strength, and explosiveness. Wilt Chamberlain is bound to dominate the game when he played during a time period of no zone defenses, and no 3 second violation. He's a great athlete regardless, but still. And Bill Russell is not NEARLY as dominant as Shaq, Wilt, or Hakeem. I'm a HUGE Russell (and Celtics) fan, but let's get real.

When did I ever say "JUST" a jump hook, and ONLY a jump hook? I NEVER said that. A jump hook IS fundamental, but I'm pretty sure that I pointed out other aspects, as well as going into deeper description, such as when I proved you wrong about his "face-up" style of basketball. You can't debate worth shit because you waive off my points, and then toss and turn the tables. Did you even watch the Lakers 3peat? Or did you not start watching basketball until LeBron won his first MVP?

Did Shaq have 8 HOF players in ONE season? Did Shaq play in an era with no 3 second violation, and only 12 teams? Haha that explains NOTHING. You were PART of the team. Were you all-state? I was. But I would be a douche to brag. Anyway, Shaq has a great jump hook, great passing ability, and yes, he DOES blow past his defender. Dude, his signature move is precisely blowing past his defender. It's called "The Black Tornado." He forces teams to change their defensive strategy because of this.

I doubt Shaq's first thought was the 'Black tornado' when he receives the ball. How many points has he gotten off the 'Black Tornado'? And how many points has he gotten off of posting up and bullying his way inside? I don't know, but I do know that the difference is HUGE. I just LOL'd when you said Shaq was widely known for his footwork. Name 1,I said ONE center

So if Shaq has no fundamentals, then why is it that he's always one of the beset passing centers of all time? Why is it that his signature moves, such as "The Black Tornado" were so dominant? Why is it that centers could never guard him 1-on-1? And don't use Bill Russell as a comparison, the guy is bound to have 11 rings when he had a 13 percent chance at winning a championship, compared to today's 3 percent chance. He also had 8 hall of famers, so make that a 50 percent chance for him.
