How fabulous that would have been for the "real" Rick's Place to have spoken Yiddish! That would have been a real stick in the eye for the Nazis. Such a beautiful language.

Wow, i just watched the English version. "You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss..." that song is replace by "Oifen pripitscik" Gevalt! I guess it works because it is a nostalgic song. Thanks for posting this.

Can anyone who speaks Yiddish comment on the translation? I watched it with the subtitles and translation on but mostly came out as nonsense. I'd love to watch more Yiddish dubs of popular movies. Someone really ought to do a scene from Star Wars. Of course, there's decades of actual Yiddish-language movies too.

Sure - what would you like to know? It's the exact translation of the original. The song they are singing is Oyfn Pripechik which is a song anyone who knows Yiddish learned first. It's funny to hear this here...actually it's hilarious because it's so out of context. It's about a small house in a shtetl where the little kids learn the Hebrew alphabet and the rabbi puts wood into the Pripechik - the oven where you cooked and heated the house.
