Looking at the results of the biscuits, I would have to say LSG for the win. Way more evenly cooked from what I could see

Thanks for the post! Would love to see how quickly each smoker gets up to 250 starting cold, how well they can hold that temperature for 30 min (looking at the Fireboard charts), then how quickly they can go to 325, and how well they can hold that temp for 30 min, etc…

Thanks for taking the time to do this. There is one important point I think you missed. There are two primary purposes for the "biscuit test". First and foremost is to identify any hot or cold spots inside the cooker, in relation to the position of the fire box. The second is to see how evenly the food is cooked based on (as you pointed out) the quality of the convection in the cooking chamber. By removing the biscuits and randomly placing them on the pan, you missed an opportunity to map out the heat differential at the various positions in the pits, and then highlight that for the viewer. Also, sliding in the top racks of each cooker and tossing in more biscuits top and bottom, would give a viewer a good opportunity to see how well heat is distributed in a cook where you're at max or near max capacity. Thanks again for taking your time to do this test.

I thought the whole purpose of the biscuit test is to see the BOTTOM of the biscuits being baked, to see the areas that are hotter than others (hot spots) within the smoker...

Really?! Everyone is touting how the LSG pellet gets the meat a darker smoke like an offset that other pellet smokers. I always wondered if they are achieving this by just pushing a dirtier smoke out. Im tempted to go Yoder...

everyone is different in regards to the flavor profile they want. I have heard the Pitts and spits and yoder do produce better results because they burn cleaner/ not putting so much dirty smoke out. if I buy another smoker, its def a charcoal gravity fed smoker. I've been told if your used to charcoal and wood, you won't like a pellet smoker. don't buy that bs crap that a pellet smoker can come close to an offset. its bogus crap. @@guitaristguy20

was way happier with the food that came off of my 300 dollar weber smokey mountain than the food off of a 3 grand pellet smoker. not knocking pellet poopers, but thats the major flaw with them. the wood composition of a pellet vs a split is way different. thats why pellet smokers have a hard time getting flavor in my opinion.

I noticed a good amount of ash blowing around when you removed the biscuits from the Lone Star. There’s also an accumulation of ash inside the cooking chamber, mainly on the right. Is that normal or is the defuser plate not seated correctly?

@@1230mkellyI HAD a Yoder 640 and I GAVE it to an army buddy.the food has absolutely zero smoke flaver coming from it. It does cook great steaks over the open flame and tasty wood fire pizza.( For some odd reason, it imparts just a subtle smoke flavor in pizzas. I think because the dough absorbs the smoke from the pellets) Other than that, you might as well use your oven because you'll get the same results. The 640 is built like a tank and it will last well into your kids life if properly maintained. Not a knock on Yoder just the truth in my opinion.

They both cook differently, the Yoder controller does not reflect the pit temperature like the fireboard. Since this was not supposed to be a test of which smoker cooks faster, this is a useless test. Also on the Yoder, how the smoker works is also dependent on how you have the damper set, from what I can see the Lonestar has none. You were looking for hot spots and didn't prove anything. When I got my Yoder I cooked 3lbs of bacon and 36 Gran biscuits with my top shelf in, and I was able determine where my hotspots were.

In all fairness, the Yoder 640s is also a tank. I owned one. It just does not put out enough or if ANY smoke flavor, and that's a FACT. I ended up giving mine away to my Army buddy. I'm tempted to buy the LSG pellet smoker. I own an LSG cabinet smoker, and it is an absolute BANK VOLT.
