Guy was paranoid about urban life and hated living with immigrants since when he moved with his wife because she paid the bills as he worked his books. 2. Guy didn't understand basic math & science so when in door heating was marketed was then implemented in nearly every residence, including his own apartment complex. Since he had no clue of thermodynamics so he didnt understand nor trust this new-age technology. 3. The guy left it "fear of the unknown" plenty of times but always had the story have that I shined/glowed unnaturally as the colors were not witnessed before and were likely from out of this known world. Yet most of his main protagonists are literal stand ins for himself with a quick and easy fix that the people be it commoners, foreigners/immigrants or even folk living in the country, if you weren't up to his racial prejudices... being a high class white man, typically im America, or at least northern Europe. You know, there was a lesser known Video game that came out around the same time as "Ib" and "The Witch's house" called "Mermaid's Curse". it's about your stereotypical group of teens who's car breaks down at a manor much like The Shining. There, one of their friends falls ill and her body is covered in sores. The goal of the game is to survive long enough for the manor's owner to return (who put them there in an attempt to offer sacrifices for the Mermaids curse.) The good ending is achieved if you manage to keep them all alive, but there are a lot of ways you can get them killed even by doing something logical (for instance, if you light the fireplace for the sick friend when she asks for it, she will dry out and die). In one ending, the lone survivor found some dead mermaids and used their flesh as a food source. The old man told her that this action made her immortal and she runs off in her insanity.

Now I know why the phonetic Japanese term for mermaid easily rang some bells in my head from an anime I remember watching at my alma mater's anime club when I was attending college there that was presumably called "Mermaid Forest" based on some research I decidedly did in terms of revisiting that particular experience from a Spanish term for a young child that surprisingly shares its name with a very common weather phenomenon!

Originally sirens were man eating bird people who'd lure sailors to their death by singing. Mermaids were around then, but they did entirely different things. It wasn't until later that the siren confusion happened.
@LazyMe420
2 жыл бұрын
The misconception of sirens being interchangeable with ''mermaids'' comes from early Roman times. The Greeks gave names to the sirens as if they were daughters of the river god Achelous and often sirens lured sailors with their songs and drowned them, so seeing all that the Romans interpreted sirens as sea creatures, but like you said they looked more like birds than anything. The actual Greek version of mermaids are called ''Gorgons'' (like medusa) and they were supposedly the daughters of the sea monster Keto, and the primordial sea god Phorcys, they were monstrous and vicious themselves but there are also folktales about ''good'' (relatively speaking lol) Gorgons like the sister of Alexander the Great - Thessaloniki, who would encounter lost sailors at sea and if they reassured her her brother is safe and still ruling she'd lead them back to safety.
@raistlarn
2 жыл бұрын
@@LazyMe420 interesting. I couldn't really find much on Greek mermaids (not sirens) other than some sources speculating that they were a type of water nymph. Edit- Now I'm highly confused cause some sources say gorgons were depicted as winged women with snakes for hair and were later changed to mermaids along with sirens, while some sources say they have fish tails.

@@raistlarn You probably just a bit lost because if the sources are on English that could be potentially unreliable if not by a reputable source because of the misconceptions that mermaids equal sirens, which has almost become canon by now lol. Also, if we wanna be totally honest maybe neither Siren nor Gorgon fits the description of mermaids (which I believe is a western European myth) which is where a lot of the confusion may be coming from but the Greek word for Mermaid is Gorgon ''Γοργόνα''. ''Gorgon'' can simply be interpreted as ''Sea monster'' in English (even though it also holds the meaning of causing terror, being swift and the sound of water). ''Gorgons'' were not characterized by their shape or form but by their connection to the sea and genealogy, Medusa for example did indeed look like half-snake half-woman while Thessaloniki like half-fish half-woman but they were both ''Gorgons'' or Sea monsters. On the other hand Sirens, while being named after Achelous the greatest river (not sea) in Greece and drowning sailors in a couple stories were also connected to Demeter (so essentially earth) and the muses. They were a specific monster. I guess you could say that technically Sirens could possibly be characterized as Gorgons from a certain perspective, however that doesn't mean all Gorgons (mermaids) were Sirens and Sirens themselves were never actually called Gorgons in any of the ancient Greek stories involving them, they're simply the Sirens. Greeks were also famous for changing the appearances of even the same monsters over the years with Romans changing characteristics of monsters even further in their own interpretations of Greek tales so strictly looking for the appearance of a monster is kinda senseless, it's more about the role they served in each story so they were often molted accordingly by each poet.

The immortality centipedes from Sekiro- Shadows Die Twice were inspired by Ningyo. If humans or animals (like the Guardian Ape or Corrupted Monk) ate carp infested with centipede larva, the larva would grow into centipedes inside of them, and they’d be immortal and unkillable as long as the centipedes were still alive. Only a blood-red odachi called the Mortal Blade could kill them.
