I thought I was in a caloric deficit until I learned to measure using grams on a scale instead of eyeing measurements. I was using about double the dressing on my salads, etc. I started measuring everything, logging honestly and started losing weight each week. Vowing to log honestly made it so I would rethink each thing I ate.

Even if you assume your watch is 50% off, you would still have to be going crazy to not get a deficit. If you are doing any exercise at all and are that heavy. Then up to 2500 Cals a day should still put you in quite the deficit.

The typical person doesn't realize how many extra calories are in things that they aren't weighing. I got a food scale for this exact reason. I weigh out things like oil, butters, cheese, etc... and I was way off on estimations. Things with excessive salt were also hindering me. I've cut out salting my food unless it's in the initial cooking phase, and even then, it's much less than I used to. Once I did that and weighed things, weight started coming off slowly. It's a lot of different things to losing weight, but once you get into the habit of tracking your food, moving more than you eat, and hydration... I'm now down over 50lbs from my heaviest weight (22lb of that has been since January this year). Still got a while to go, but it can be done.

People here have a screwed vision of what healthy and a normal portion size is. A small McDonald’s drink is equivalent to a large drink in an island in Greece. Restaurants put way too much food in the place. Most portion sizes are for two adults. People in the U.S think calories deficit=starving/malnutrition. Self love has become out of control eating. Also the “everyone should, love and accept me as I am” means no need to get better, staying mediocre.

If you are truly in a calorie deficit, and you’re not losing weight, you need to go to your doctor ASAP to see what’s going on. In 99.9% of the cases, the biggest issue is most people UNDERESTIMATE their caloric intake and OVERESTIMATE their activity level. I’d like to watch that discussion because it’s more prevalent than people think. I want to make sure that I’m in a good headspace for that because I’m sure it will be dark.

I had that issue, lost about 60 pounds and then nothing…gained 10 even though I was strict about tracking. Went to doc and found out I have Hashimoto’s. Cut gluten and dairy, lost 15 pounds due to inflammation and water retention. Feeling so much better. No meds
@EllePole

@@JRkY5032 I’m happy for you but that doesn’t mean you’ll get away with not taking meds. For anyone reading, if Hashimoto's is left untreated, complications can be life-threatening. Because the hormones produced by the thyroid are so vital to the body's functions, untreated Hashimoto's can lead to serious and even life-threatening complications. It progresses slowly, so keep an eye on it. Since it’s an autoimmune disease you will likely need thyroid replacement hormones in the future. That’s not a failure on your part. Best of luck ❤

I really relate to this girl. I did struggle with disordered eating when I was in high school and college, but after working really hard to correct my mindset around food I was able to gain weight. I gained 60 lbs and ended up being overweight, but I was able to course correct with the help of my doctors and a therapist. I was able to take the weight off and be a healthy weight again without resorting to restrictive behaviors. After having my twins, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and I could have just let that stop me from losing weight. But I didn't. I reached back into my tool bag, found the tools I had created before when recovering from my mental health problems, and I have been steadily losing weight ever since. At some point you have to stop being a victim and take control of your life.

same here! starvation actually indicates your body is burning it fat and muscle storage though. which is normal body reaction to calorie restriction. his point was if your body wasn’t burning its own fat and muscles you would in fact die if it didnt have adequate energy input either.

I wanted to wait gone so badly I flat out didn’t eat anything for two whole months and dropped 60 pounds. Lost all of my weight in a total of 14 weeks by basically not eating anything went all the way down to 183. did this, as a totally blind person who cannot see.

Unfortunately, it’s extremely difficult and the head hunger is unbearable, but it is doable. It’s just hell and sadly not everyone is equipped to deal with the levels of, hell you have to go through when you have so many factors working against you. I still struggle with binge eatting and getting down to my goal weight but what never helped me in the process was telling myself there’s nothing I can do

Most people overestimate calories consumed. Most people do not understand “healthy” eating, digestion, molecular breakdown of food and metabolism. PCOS makes it take more time because the body is so sensitive . I have had lipodema since I was 12. I RUN 35-45 miles every week (outdoors) walk 3-4 miles a day And eat REAL FOOD, whole food I make myself and learned about the body and myself. I weigh 135lbs and manage it. Having something doesn’t mean it’s an excuse to pig out on unhealthy stuff, then blame everything bc of your YEARS of bad choices. It takes TIME and daily effort and commitment. As Dr Now says., you have all the snacks already eaten.

I do not understand why people think they’re actually in a deficit and never are! And every time someone asks me how I lost so much weight and what am I doing- I tell them they’re gonna have to track their calories/macros, it’s literally the ONE thing they NEVER want to do 💀💀 they’d rather think they can just exercise a little more and still eat the same 😭 and they always swear they don’t “eat that much” but even so I don’t think they realize how calorie dense the foods they choose to have are. Same as her I have been overweight since a child (even more so, she said she was a size 12 in high school- I was a size 18 in 3RD GRADE!!!!) it makes me so sad because it’s like they’ve given up before even TRULY starting. I’m down 160lbs total so far- it’s freaking possible and you do not have to starve! It’s actually so hard to exceed my deficit let alone hit my maintenance calories when eating clean foods, it would be an insane amount of food- I could never 😭

Just missed this live. I started gaining weight a couple of years ago on what had been my maintenance calories for the last 30 year. My doctor ran a ton of tests and it turns out that my thyroid failed as I was starting menopause. My metabolic rate had dropped by nearly 40%. My caloric deficit is now a brand new number. As someone who has had to measure their food forever (lifelong type 1 diabetic) I've seen people mwho are sure they eating a certain amount of calories but are forgetting the extras.

Based off my limited info from her my guess is she is someone who is always at an opposite end of an extreme. By her own words she went from having an eating disorder and now she overweight and can't seem too lose it. It took me a very long time to rectify the fantasy of losing weight with the reality. The fantasy is that I'll buy this product or get a trainer and within three month I'll have the exact body I want. The reality is, it's a slow burn and eating and drinking whatever I want is not in the cards for me. And I will have to make adjustments to my routine to keep challenging myself while keeping myself in a deficit. People don't often want to hear that its hard , continuous consistent work that never stops. Could she be doing everything and not losing weight, its possible but I would ask her more questions. How often do you work out, how long, do you lift weights, do you weigh out ur food etc. I think some people would rather lose weight primarily with food so they put themselves in extreme deficit right off that bat. Not only is something like 1200 calories very hard to maintain but it doesn't leave you much space to go down lower. I've been where she is , so frustrated that me changing my habits did give me the instant results I wanted that I gave up. I had to really ask myself have I done everything I can, truth is I did sometimes but not often. To me weightloss only comes when you are genuinely ready to be honest with yourself and prepare for the long road ahead to reach your goal.
