I’m subscribing just because of your real house. I’m in need of some real homeschool moms right now. Never seen a video of yours but I needed this today!

Agree! I do appreciate the homeschoolers who post their choices now, though. I'm starting to think about next year, but I won't be finished deciding until we've switched to our summer schedule (there are some things I've already purchased for next year, just because they've had their biggest sale for the year already).

OMG yes!! A lot of the curriculum we're working on will carry over to next year. I also like to buy several.items during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Thank you!!!!

Same! I think most of what we used this year is carrying over as well. And if we do need anything, I ALWAYS wait for the sales.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I envy that you can not stress and just wait! But if I didn’t have next year planned out before this year ends, I wouldn’t be able to relax over the summer. I’m getting ready to order today, I’ll spend these last 2-3 weeks of this school year organizing, and then I won’t even look at it until the few days before we start.

Totally get this. We buy throughout the year. That said I have next year planned out well the big things. Some things because we're sticking with the same ELA & math next year others because I want to find second hand resources and that takes time. So little by little I'll be ready for August.

It does take time to find those second hand resources, but I think it's worth the wait.

I am not a planner. But I bought mine during the sale. I still don't have everything because some of the items I want to get are from different companies and they are not on sale, yet. Luckily there's JBF consignment few weeks ago. I only went there for homeschool related. I found some that I will use. But I dont just buy whatever because we live under 400 sq ft, so little space, I don't have much room for "extra." So most of my nights are watching different types of curriculum, because I want to be sure which one we like per subject and that I know it will be a good fit for us. I've been back and forth on science curriculum, and still on the hunt. LOL. I'm so thankful that I don't overbuy things(except gardening, I can't resist!!).

Sales and used curriculum are the best. There's no need to pay full price when you don't have to. I've noticed that the price of curriculum has gone up quite a bit since I started homeschooling, but there is also more variety than before. And yay for gardening!

This happened to me last year. I was a part of a science curriculum collab. I hadn't even thought about it yet, but decided make a video. I don't think I ended up using much in that video and I regretted jumping on board so early. This year I shared, but at this point, we loop around and homeschool year-round, and I happened to be at a reevaluation point now anyway. I really only work about a quarter at a time though - I don't really like to plan for a whole year at a time. I'm just weird like that. lol. But that's also what's great about homeschool!
@lifeinthetrenches

I've done the same with collabs in the past. I think maybe half the stuff I shared we actually used, if even that. I'm weird like you and plan out short segments. Usually for 6-8 weeks (depending on holidays, birthdays, etc.), and even then those plans are tentative. It all really depends on my kids' pace and what life throws at us.

@@lifeinthetrenches Yes! I find that our family and my kid's educational needs change so much. We'll go through things at a pace that's totally different than I expect. I just can't plan a year out completely. And for *MOST* resources (not all), my kids are in need of something a bit different long before the year is up. That's part of why we like unit studies. We reevaluate how everything is working - if it's good, we keep chugging along. If it needs to be adjusted, it's a good time to make the needed changes.

I impulse-bought an entire preK curriculum worth $200, only to fall in love with Charlotte Mason's philosophy and tossing the entire curriculum apart from the ABC flashcards, which I altered with a Sharpie to fit the simplified lesson plans I came up with.

Sometimes what we come up with or piecemeal together is way better than any curriculum.
