there is already a convolver that uses the GPU and it became free when it was paid since it was created in 2009, released I think in 2011; liscense free since the past year or so because it just doesn't work with all effects; in fact, the only which was capable of being processed by the GPU was a convolver. I'm not a programmer, but due that the CPU is able to manage it, there are convolvers everywhere. Actuaslly, some people is claiming to make even a DAW GPU Driven, but their flagship is just a convolver... which already been seen about 10 years ago.

Just a quick update to 1:58 It's actually a correlation meter and while we can say +1 is mono and the closer to 0 the more stereo is the audio, it's a little more than that. It shows the phase correlation between left and right channel, so the more different are the sounds in L and R channel, the closer it will go to 0 but our goal is also to prevent it from going into the minus region, because it can cause phase canellation. Small and quick dives under the 0 are okay, but we should avoid keeping the meter under 0 for a longer period of time (I would say a few seconds is too long). In general, every move under the 0 shows us that there is some issue with phase correlation and we can experience the mono compatibility issues :)

Indeed, and it is even more complicated then that. An instrument would be fine with negative phase if there is nothing in that instruments frequency range to cause phase cancellation. You need another signal in the similar frequency for phase cancelling to happen. On top of that, Sometimes you may want to intentionally have phase cancellation to achieve creative effects. In the video I didn't want to go into all these concepts as this is more about understand dynamic imaging and not phasing. But thanks a ton for bringing this up here so people can read about it. 😊✌

That's true, I forgot to write about that one important thing - don't check that meter in solo :) I personally use it most of the time on the master bus and if I want to check some of the audio files I just solo all of them + I can always check the behaviour of the full track. I'm aware you're aware of that, but I wrote it just to be sure everyone will understand it correctly, because it can be a little confusing for the beginners. Have a great day!

This is amazing content, I love how musical AND scientific you are about it. Many production youtubers rely too much on their ears, which can result in snake oil and bias. Other production youtubers rely too much on data and graphs, which can distract from the real sound of the music. You do an amazing job of merging both together in a good balance. Thank you!

As usual, one of the best content about producing, techniques and creativity for electronic music. Short and rich video, easy to understand, and objective. I'm a newbie producer, started this year and your channel has helped me so much. What I do is watch one video or two about something, open the DAW and test it out, mess with buttons and knobs almost randomly and then watch it again sometime later when I'm more used to what I comprehended (and I learn in the two separate times). I'm learning very fast thanks to people like you who share such valuable knowledge. Thank you!

Also, I noticed you have quite some Stephan Bodzin content, which explains why I often feel suprised by your taste in sounddesign and music in general.

Personally using Izotope's Imager & Ummet Ozcans Xpander for widening (Both excellent & FREE!) But first always try to pan on Synth itself if possible. Always check whats avalible on the Source first! Then lastly play with how the signal paths may affect things in what order things are connected to! 👍

I am amazed that I have similar workflow as you for one part. I always dublicate my sounds if I am gonna dynamically manipulate them or use any other effect that would drastically alter the soound throughout the song. I feel much safer and much free in that regards. This may seem like a little thing but it is beneficial. I am not pro or master in music production but this something I highly recommend.

One small suggestion. Those quick cuts when you are speaking are kinda distracting. It would be natural to have the pauses included while you speak rather than cut the quiet portions out.

7:43 I dont really get it. I thought to make it sounding good in a club, you should use this plugin for example to make your base area in mono. Why is it okay now to make its stereo image all over the place? Or maybe I dont get the numbers on the right.. idk
@DrBuffaloBalls
2 жыл бұрын
Having stereo information in the low end doesn't necessarily break your mix in the club. It can if you aren't careful, but if you have a good phase correlation and it sounds good when you test it in mono, it's alright.
@silas_h
2 жыл бұрын
@@DrBuffaloBalls and how do I achieve it? Or how to fix it when I have a bad correlation? Or is the only fix to make it mono then
@DrBuffaloBalls
2 жыл бұрын
@@silas_h you achieve width in bass just like any other frequency, you use stereo FX such as chorus, flangers, etc. You can ensure the phase correlation is good with a correlation meter, a correlation value if zero or above is good. To improve correlation, you can reduce the width instead of making it completely mono, you can also adjust the blend between your bass and stereo FX.

I'd suggest using a pop filter on your mic and an HPF on your vocal recording. Hard to take any advice on advanced audio/production techniques seriously when something so basic isn't done right.
@Bthelick
2 жыл бұрын
Hey you stole my vocal!!!! (joking) But seriously warning to artists and producers, the vocal is a splice sample, and I've had KZitem ID splice samples even though it was buried in a track. A big publisher (Merlin-Fuga) claimed it, and when appealed, telling them they have no exclusivity over the sample, they just give you the finger. Yes they are acting illegally (under most countries music law) but they know you won't have the money to fight them.
