Ever wonder why bad news spreads faster than good news?
And why we tend to remember negative life experiences better than many of the positive ones?
Well, one reason is that as humans we have a NEGATIVITY BIAS which is the propensity to attend to, learn from, and use negative information far more than positive information.
It starts in childhood, because it’s necessary to help you survive and infant - it literally keeps you alive.
But most of us take it into adulthood which leads us to overthink, catastrophize & to experience stress & overwhelm.
So pay more attention to your thoughts. Listen to them. Observe them.
When you notice them veering to negative, black or write thinking, look for ways to bring in a more balance perspective.
Perhaps seek someone else’s perspective, spend some time journaling about the situation or go for a walk around the block.
What’s your best tip for helping to regain perspective when you’re stuck in a negative thought cycle?
