Welcome to another video everyone. A short and sharp one here, explaining how and why you need to do the carburettor breather hose modification to your DRZ. Enjoy!
The ..simplest, and ..hence, THE ..BEST, explanation, of how to do the FCR Carby breather hoses mod, that I’ve yet seen on YT Josh..! Congratulations, ..well done..! 😉👍

Not only water crossings, but mud can cake over the hoses. Also had a mud wasp block them once.

@@_JoshJB_ a good mate and I rode up in the vic high country at Christmas and are going to try and retrace your cape york adventure later this year. You and lance are a great inspiration. There are heaps of adventure riding channels on KZitem but I seem to gel with both your channels the most. Even the short clips like this one have great content 👌

Another great video Josh. Would you mind sharing details of the work stand you are using? I need to get one for my DRZ Thanks Andrew

I got it from Supercheap auto. It’s rated to do quad bikes. I got it for my Tenere but it works great for wheeling the DRZ around the garage.

They are breathers? I thought they were overflow/drain hoses. What a stupid idea from factory. Does that also mean they suck dust up? Have you done the fix to the carbie to stop the issue lance had on the cape trip? Can’t wait to see the upcoming trip
@_JoshJB_

I believe they do drain as well. That’s why you leave the 2 hoses pointing downwards. I kind of forgot to mention that point. And no I haven’t. Fingers crossed it’s all good

Does this work on the s model with the factory carburetor which is different from the E model
@_JoshJB_

I would assume so if it has the same 4 breather hoses but I don’t know enough about the S model carb to be certain.

Uhh good question, I don’t think there is a way around close by but there is definetely less steeper options up than I took. You can do it 😆

you can go up little red and bypasses big red altogether, but the next dune will be just as hard as big red if heading west anyway. big red is easy on a drz though.

Well said Josh! I think Margarita doesn't know her ADV bikes that well LOL. Just another observation from a KLR rider- this issue occurs for them also- i've even had it happen in heavy rain!!! Their is a fuel petcock breather on KLR which can have H2O ingress which leads to fuel starve. Seems your identified probs are not dissimilar. Top solution offered in this post. KLR solutions have been to cut the breather at an angle at the end as well as cut a 5cm slice diagonally up the pipe- midline, thus reducing H2O clogging. Your solution seems a better one though. Thanks heaps@@_JoshJB_
