Omg that disclaimer is so good! The terms and understanding here are very modern, either DaThings already had experience knowing someone with DID or they did a fuckton of research just for that disclaimer. Isnt DID a mental disorder often resulting from abuse? That disclaimer seems to be glorifying it to me if anything.
@generalzar0ff
Жыл бұрын
@@ultimatecringe8773The disclaimer isn’t saying that more people with DID should be created, it’s just saying that if someone already has the disorder, trying to remove the disorder from them should not be attempted. At least that’s how I took it.
@JainaSoloB312
Жыл бұрын
@@ultimatecringe8773 It is not "glorifying" DID in any way, much less the trauma which causes it. It's just treating those with DID as people worthy of kindness, which (not to generalize but) they are often in need of reminding of. Plus, medical misinformation is bad, especially about something already so massively misunderstood.
@cooldude6651
10 ай бұрын
@@ultimatecringe8773 It was previously considered a mental disorder, but the contemporary wisdom is that it's fully possible to live well while plural, and so not necessarily a disorder, just a different way to be. The name is misleading in this regard, having not been updated since the release of the most recent DSM if memory serves. Further, the disclaimer doesn't glorify anything, it says that plural people are deserving of dignity and respect, and that the trope that plural identities need to be purged or integrated into a whole very much does harm a lot of people. This is all too true - many fear seeking therapy in general due to the unfortunately all-too-real concern that the standard of "care" they receive will amount to an attempt to erase them.
@ultimatecringe8773
10 ай бұрын
@@cooldude6651 Its also fully possible to live with schizophrenia and live a fulfilling life, so I must say I disagree with the reasoning for not calling DID a disorder. That being said if people dont want to lose their multiple personalities that is their choice to make and I'll respect it. Genuine question btw, what options for treatment are available to them if they dont want the personalities to be fused/destroyed? I was under the impression that was the only route but am open to being educated.
