I've had two 54-2 cameras and this is my next one. Got a bid in a very nice one now. Best 56-2 video I've seen, appreciate you. Great camera, great review ! LarryMac

Thank you!!!! It's an absolute monster of a box camera. Put some tmax 100 or ektar 100 in it, and you're in for a treat.

That shutter lock is a handy feature! I've fired off many accidental shots on my Sureshot and Brownie.

It is! It prevents double exposure! At the same time, there is no way to override the interlock for special effect. But I'm still conflicted as to whether it aligns with the ethos of box cameras... It seems Zeiss may have lost the plot on this one.

The cardboard Kodak Brownie was introduced in 1900,the Tengor 56/2 was last produced in 1956.In between this time was the Kitty Hawk flight and two world wars.Things evolve for better or worse,including box cameras.Your philosophical take is admirable and it would identify you perhaps as being a "purist" but photography is essentially a technical endeavor and Zeiss succeeded beautifully in the 56/2,capturing the zeitgeist of the time in an affordable jewel of a camera.

The Zeiss box, is a bit of a Twitter force when it comes to box cameras. And yes there was about 55 years between the original brownie and this camera. At the same time Zeiss like to put as much technical ability as possible into every camera that was made by Zeiss. I do enjoy this camera, I have shot film through it, for a box camera it is very sharp. Thank you Please if you want more videos do like and subscribe I have more on the way. Thank you again

The 56-2 is truly ahead of it's time and the most advanced box camera ever made. It's a really beautiful camera too ! On mine I'd like to clean the viewfinders, but the 2 side screw's won't budge, even after soakings with penetrant ! But I can see well enough thru them and the lens is good, so I'll live with it ! I'm afraid of breaking the screw's and having to face those problems. I'll just see how my 1st roll of Fuji Acros 100 comes out. I got this camera one Ebay for a really good price after watching this video about 4 times ! If enough people watch it the prices will go up, guaranteed ! Best video I've seen on this camera ever. Thank you!!!!! The camera truly punches above its weight. It's almost a not-box.

I recently picked up an earlier model box tengor 54/2 from an antique store. I found you while searching for info on this interesting little box camera. You did a very nice job explaining the features, and describing it's place in camera hierarchy. I will be checking out your other vids!

Thank you!!!! The tengor was a vacation Zeiss. You could throw it in the bag with some 120 film, and still have a good amount of control over your shot (for a box). At the same time, it is so much more feature laden than a normal box. It has some exposure lock, an interlock to prevent accidental firing, an achromatic lens to reduce softness at corners, and very, VERY, nice viewfinders. If you like my content, subscribe for the latest work. I have a cleaning video for this camera in the works. It's quite easy to get into, so stay tuned! Jason

I didn't know about this one. I'll be looking for one. I don't care if it defeats the purpose, I find it very desirable. I'm sure it's quite Lomo compared to my Mamiya C3 (the only Medium Format camera I own so far) but it's a lovely piece of engineering and I'd love to shoot with one.

Thanks! Feel free to explore www.flickr.com/gp/ganzonomy/W58114s59x Here's a comparison between a Kodak brownie and the box tengor. It's not a lomography camera by any stretch.

Very good video! With a max of 9 permutations of settings, I don't think it's much of a complicated camera! XD

Not relative to other cameras such as my contarex or Medalists or leicaflex, but compared to other box cameras, it's complex.

Just because it's the best box camera, does not mean that it isn't a box camera. That's like saying that the world's fastest car is not a car.
@ganzonomy

Oh I agree, but it also pushes the limit of what the spirit of a box camera should be. It's anything but simplistic, and it's extremely overbuilt. However the optics are fantastic, and it is capable of some truly excellent shots.

Would you be interested in doing a video on how to load it and how to set up for the first frame. I don't know how to get mine ready for the first picture.

A flat head screwdriver, align the two levers at the front fascia to their middle positions, and you should be able to wiggle off the front fascia
