The reason I think penelope comes back from suffering is that as Odysseus is weighing his options, he thinks about his entire journey to get back to his wife, and if anyone would be able to “absolve” his sins, it’s penelope. He knows choosing himself is wrong, but he takes that guilt because once he reaches penelope, she can help take that suffering from him and they can be happy once again. And the interesting thing is that it’s overlayed on just a man! So we’re hearing odysseus’ thought process as he tried to rationalize his decision. What kind of monster kills their whole crew? But my wife can take that pain from me…

I think that, because of the whole “voices can only come from real people unless it’s gods doing magic stuff” rule thing, Penelope’s part is an illusion created by Zeus to torturously illustrate what Odysseus’ choice truly entails: sacrificing all of his men for the smallest uncertain chance that he will see his family again. And that’s probably what the artist interpreted too and why she’s yellow in the animatic, in alignment with Zeus and his lightning’s main color.

The Horse and The Infant, Zeus: *The blood in your hands is something you won't lose... all you can choose is whose* Thunder Bringer, Zeus: *Someone's gotta die today and you have got the final say* That call back from the first song is insane. Jorge is really a genius lyricist and a wonderful composer.

Zues is the god of thunder. But because he is the king of the gods, he's also the god of judgment. This is why Helios ran to him to pass judgment on these foolish mortals.

My interpretation of suffering showing up at the end of thunderbringer was along the lines of what you were thinking. That he's almost convincing himself that if he can just get to her, it will all have been worth it. That she will literally take the suffering away if he can reach her. He's rationalizing the sacrificing of his crew, the six to scylla, then the rest for his own life, because the pain of those decisions will only be temporary if he succeeds at getting back to Penelope. She's the only thing that matters.

The crew stabbed him, but he still saw himself as their captain. In the second half of Mutiny Odysseus still tries to convince them not to kill the cows and in the last 4 lines he commands the crew in an attempt to save them. After all the betrayals he still wanted to get as many home as possible. Unfortunately, at the end of the day the most important thing is him making it back home to Penelope.

Sky Poseidon jamming to the sound of his own voice and using promiscuous lyrics in an otherwise dark and terrifying moment for the people whose lives he's about to obliterate in an instant while also destroying one of the few remaining things Odysseus cares for is very much in character for him fr. (Also, general consensus is that Penelope is an illusion in this song that Zeus constructed as a way to kind of toy with Odysseus. You'll notice in most animatics that she's given coloring that coincides with the color of Zeus' lightning.)
@WittySomething
28 күн бұрын
Zeus is known for being uh...promiscuous, whether his target is willing or not. He's referring to Ody's pride in this song, and calling it a woman because he has no regard for them really. He's saying he's going to take Ody's pride and basically do as he pleases with it. And in this case he's trying to break it. So in a way he is addressing Ody in the first half, but doesn't actively address him till the second. Zeus himself is also prideful, so he spends that first bit just sorta flexing about how great he is. Also, 4th lyric from No Longer You is Thunderbolt, obviously referring to not only Zeus, but him destroying the rest of the fleet at the end of the song with one. Also, I suggest checking out the animatics Jorge had commissioned. They're all really good. Especially the ones for Scylla and Thunder Bringer.

More fun Greek mythos trivia: Hubris/Hybris (a specific form of pride that led mortals to defy the gods) was personified as a lesser goddess who, according to Apollodorus, had a child by Zeus-this is one version of Pan’s origin (others set him as a child of Hermes). Other myths place Hubris at odds with Nemesis, goddess of retribution.

I always imagine when Penelope says "let me take the suffering from" the vision fading and Odysseus is looking at the crew and eurocups face exhausted since he was saying he was suffering in mutiny and Odysseus in that moment decides to take the suffering that he has caused from his crew

I personally like the idea that Penelope showing up and singing the line from Suffering is actually Zeus giving Odysseus giving him an illusion of her to get Ody to choose himself and kill his crew.

This is basically cannon, in the animatic that Jorge show us in the Livestream penelope appear in the sky and she was glowing in yellow (which is zeus "main color") so it's obvious that penelope was an illusion of zeus. I don't think I've seen people talk about this, but I think it's interesting that Penelope says "let me take the suffering from you" rather than "I will take the suffering from you" like the siren. She's asking Odysseus for permission to comfort him, all he has to do is come home to her.

If you'll be listening on repeat anyway, I strongly recommend checking out the unbelievable animatic by @nealillustrator I love how detached Zeus is from this entire situation. Odysseus and crew are having the worst day of their lives for this is an average Tuesday for Zeus. Also, it's gut wrenching that Ody has been away from home for so long that even the false siren voice of "Penelope" is enough to drive him towards choosing himself.

I love the idea that because Zeus is singing to pride as opposed to the crew as a whole, he's able to make his " judgment call" in a detached and almost dispassionate way. The only individual he engages with is Odysseus. So he has no qualms with completely obliterating the crew.
@ShyyGaladriel
28 күн бұрын
The horrible part about this song is that Odysseus still loves his men and wants to protect them. He’s grown up around them, he knows their families. Zeus came in there knowing the crew would die. He put their deaths on Odysseus, giving him the “choice” even though everyone knew he would choose to live. If Zeus had come in and kill the crew and leave Odysseus, he could blame Zeus. In this case he’s bearing the guilt himself. I’m sure someone has mentioned that the vision of Penelope here is brought by Zeus. He’s further influencing Odysseus’s decision. Also you should totally check out Neil Illustrator’s Thunderbringer. It’s not story accurate but it is so GOOD!!!!

Most chords feature 3 notes, and they are called Consonant. “Crunch” is added when chords become Dissonant, and that is usually when notes are next to each other, which generally features 4 notes in one chord because notes have to be next to each other when there are 4 notes in a chord vs 3. The TLDR is it sound crunchy of course!!
