The previous owners of my places used an offset but installed it incorrectly and set the bolt in grout instead of the designated flange location now I got to chip into the tile to place a new flange correctly 😞

Good Video btw :) I watched the end 3X and could be in error, but it looks as though you merely glued two ends of pipe with the same diameter together at their ends. Although it might get by without leaking or otherwise causing a problem in the short term, I don't see that "joint" taking the punishment of the weight of the toilet and people without working its way loose in the ground causing the toilet, flange, offset joint and all to come out of the floor. If this is the case, It wouldn't fly where I come from.Respectfully, Negron

I was thinking the same thing. I may just try cutting an inch off and have at least 1/2” overlap.

It isn't an end to end connection. The offset flange fits inside the pvc pipe that's in the concrete. He's swabbing the inside of the pipe in the ground and swabbing the outside of the offset flange before inserting the offset into the pipe in the ground. When I followed this procedure it worked perfectly for me. If anyone is concerned about cutting off the top of the pipe in the ground, here's a video that shows how to remove the glued in flange to keep the height of the pipe in the ground. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uaaAp6eImn18mHo

Will this work to slide my toilet over 2 inches? I'm 2 inches short for a new vanity i want to put in

These flanges usually only give you one to one and a half inches of offset hopefully you’ll find one that extends more than that but I doubt it

Thanks for this video- finally getting around to completing a 1/2 bath in my basement in my house that I had built nine years ago. I had my builder do the rough plumbing. Where I put the wall for my bathroom it’s only 13 inches on one side of the wall. Am going to have to chisel the same fake wood tile I put in that looks exactly like your job! Wish I had learned about the 15 inch rule before I put in the tile! I think I noticed yours ha a crack- hopefully I won’t crack mine. And I thought finishing this bathroom was going to be easy!

Yeah that 15 inch rule sucks but I really wish you the best if you’re gonna tackle this job

Finished! Although mine was a little different, the process was generally the same. My ABS was coming up through the 4 inch concrete floor so I have a void I will need to back fill after I make sure everything is good. I used an air chisel with a wide blade and also a pointed blade. To cut the ABS I used an Avanti PRO 3 inch Cut-off Blade Mandrel (Home Depot 08925 09448) and an Avanti PRO 3 inch blade Carbide Grit multi Material Cut off Wheel (Home Depot 08925 15406). I also called my nephew in Washington State for some advice. Overall a big job but well worth it.

Oh snap, here is your update. Glad it went well. I live in a concrete condo and I’m doubting ill be allowed to smash out a notch in the concrete floor though….argh, 10” rough-ins are a pain to find good toilets for these days!!

@@misterfung Thanks for checking back with me! I'm SO glad I did this. I had been wanting to do it for 30 years (bought this house new in August 1979) but didn't know anything about anything. Years ago a plumbing contractor friend said it could be done but I didn't want to pay what they would have charged so I put up with it until the last time it leaked and I went to this site for help. I can't believe it's been 9 months already. I hope others who are uneasy about doing this job will watch your video so they can see an everyday person like me was able to do it and they can too.

That's a great video. It gives me the courage to try it myself. The toilet in my main bathroom is too close to the wall behind it and it doesn't seat very well. I'll have to chip away some tile in addition to the concrete but what the heck. The toilet is out right now because the metal ring is messed up from the torque caused by the toilet sitting crooked. Today is Tuesday, I just may bite the bullet and give this a try Saturday when I'll have more time. Thanks for posting this!
