my gramps and his best friend we're caught by the japs. they were tied to a tree with other prisoners, scheduled to be executed the next morning. gramps and his best friend somehow untangled the ropes. they escaped by rolling on the hill and falling in the river below. they returned to their company to fight another day. My Great Grandfather fought in the Pacific. Country boy from Monroe, Louisiana. Enlisted in 1938 at 16 years old. Man was at Pearl Harbor in Chow Hall when Japanese attacked. He was at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima First Wave, many many more insane battles of history also fought in Korea and trained Marines for Vietnam. He lived to be 99 years old. He passed away in his sleep around his family who loved him in March of 2022. Rest in Peace Sergeant Major William H. Braddock. Semper Fi.

The smell of debris, gun powder and rotting bodies, the stomaches these guys had. Very different wars in modern times, shooting at things you cant see. These guys were face to face

We have something called "Hate crimes" in the US. It makes any crime committed out of hate (for different sex, race, nationality, sexual preference, and so forth) to have a harsher punishment. But in war, hate is what its all about. It makes no sense.
