The top arm should be fairly straight but slightly bent. The elbow needs to be bent enough that the joint is not locked straight. The amount of bend will vary from person to person but it should remain constant throughout the stroke. Another component that comes into play here is the elbow positioning. The top elbow should point up, not down. This is called a high elbow. There is more info on the CKC website under Coaching resources.

I'm going to steal the push ups one and get the youngins to do it. Ps, you need to drop harder with your shoulders on the blade, and push your knee forward when you pull, effectively twisting your hips (left forward as right comes back) so you don't end up straightening your knee ever. take it an go.

I don't understand why or how to push your front knee forward when pulling. That seems very counterintuitive. Can you elaborate?

Do you know a video that teaches the basics of c1 paddling??? I am starting from zero knowledge. Ive been able to paddle a few strokes already but keeps losing balance. I want to know any video or materi that can teach me the basics. Tnx
