I wear a tie almost daily. There are 3 different knots I use. By far, my favorite is the Shelby knot. Perfect knot every time. I've used over 20 years.

Thank you! As a big dude who likes a symmetrical tie knot this uses so much less length than the half Windsor I often used.

I was wearing full Windsor half Windsors, but since I’ve learned about the Shelby knot, it had become my favorite knot to wear.. thanks for the video and the information.

0:34 - Ok first of all, that's not where your sternum is. You're pointing to your large intestine. Your sternum is where your heart is. So no, it's not "two inches below the sternum". The only way that would work, is if you're four feet tall. I'm 6'4", so the small end has to be much lower. Because of that, I had to try it four times. Also because your fingers that held the knot were obscured, and it kept coming out wrong. I finally managed to do it, and the small end very nearly came out lower than the big end.

I recently stumbled upon this video and can only recommend it for tall people. I am a bit over 2 meters and this is the only knot which looks good and where the small part of the tie stays long enough to fit into the little holder. Wish I had already found this gem 10 years ago. Big thumbs up!

The man who taught me to tie a tie that way has been dead for 12 years, he taught me that knot over 60 years ago, just after I started school, so he must have learned it over 70 years ago. Thanks dad.

This is one of the two knots I only ever use. The second version is even simpler. Start the same, then little over big, big across the front, big up towards the neck and then down through the loop. This simpler version works for chunkier ties.

Perfect! Needed a knot for a shorter tie (that wouldn't have much of the little side left on the back with a double windsor...) and the dimple is the cherry on top! Classy knot, my gal loved it!

Great little video from Don Shelby, the man behind the knot, and a terrific record for the archives of cravatology. At least this piece of tie history won't be relegated to theory or legend.

I love this knot. My famous tailor, Herbert Martin, showed it to me in the nineties. When a full windsor is too thick, because of the material of the tie, the shelby is a "must".
