How did you connect your 1 phase motor to avoid inrush current?

The main vertical tube is 2"x 3" x 3/16 wall.

I too will be building one of these. In a few months of looking at various videos yours looks probably the best to me. Very nicely done. As I draw on a computer for a living I can create plans for this. I can do from scratch or with your help. if you have anything you can share such as the bearings you chose, and as many dimensions that you may have recorded. how much pressure on spring to hold belt tight? too much the belt brakes to little it falls off is there a lb figure to this?

It was really just a calculated guess. I wanted to have enough travel and tension, so I moved the spring up and down the arm till it felt right. Also changed the height of the mount the spring sits on. Pretty much trial and error.

I was in bit of a guess. I welded two valve springs together I had sitting around, and it worked good.

Jon, maybe I missed it, what size motor did you use? 1.5 or 2 hp? 1750 or 3600 rpm? thanks nate

+Nathan s Hey...... It is a 2 hp and 1800 rpm. I also went with the larger 6" drive wheel.

Hi...... did you make the wheels, or purchase? The drive wheel is slightly domed and the top wheel is rounded so that it will track. That is also where you adjust. Hope that helps.......

Hi Jon, very nice belt grinder. I've also built mine and i face small issue with the tracking of the belt. When i start and stop the grinder the belt is moving left and right before it aligns, yours seems to be very stable! I can't find a position where the belt don't move, i can't let the grinder alone for 1 min without re-align... Do you have any advice regarding the wheels or anything else which would help me? Thank you in advance
