@@Uncle_Sam76Yes, calling the United States of America America is a common mistake made by Unitedstadians. Since America is a continent, and since the oldest region to receive this name is the northeast of Brazil, it is better to refer to the United States of America by the acronym USA, thus avoiding confusion and hassle.
@Uncle_Sam76

@@Cauadesouzanascimento174 well since you’d prefer to debate national continent discrepancies in a the comments of a video featuring a scene from Dune, fine. Why pray tell is Europe Africa and Asia 3 continents if the Americas are one? The gap connecting Africa and Asia isn’t as narrow as the one connecting North and South America, and the Ural Mountains are no clear barrier considering they’re short af. By your reasoning the definition of a continent makes no sense and has no consistency across land masses. Any geographical barriers separating the other three are more than satisfied in the case of the Americas. And furthermore referring to the United States of America as America is not a “mistake” it’s one of the most common nicknames used to refer to the most populous country in the western hemisphere. Thanks for sharing your opinion but I’ll have to respectfully disagree with it.
@Cauadesouzanascimento174

Continents are demarcated based on historical conventions and political influence. Geologically, Europe is not a continent, India is. In the same way that Australia is a continent, but it is considered just a country within a non-existent continent called Oceania. Since geological issues are not relevant, we must look at the historical and political side. Historically all landmasses west of the Old World were considered America. North and South America have always been treated as the same continent. When the Spanish crossed the Isthmus of Panama to conquer the Inca empire, they referred to that entire continent as one. The culture, fauna, flora of the two continents is virtually the same. America is a single historical and cultural entity, and that's what matters. Of course it is a mistake for you to call yourselves Americans and America. This offends the other inhabitants of the continent. America is a continent, all the inhabitants of that continent are Americans. Nobody in Europe calls themselves European as a national gentilic. And if he did, he would be ridiculed. Not even the Arabs of Saudi Arabia are called Arabs, they are called Saudis. What is obvious, no one has the right to appropriate something that belongs to several peoples.@@Uncle_Sam76
