I'd somehow love the thought of Quentin making his final movie, perhaps in collab with the Coens, about the Chief and his adventures after the Escape. Anyway a long overdue sequel and I like to think Quentin with his knowledge of the era, great writing and superior vision for soundtrack and cast plus the comic and surprise perspective and regional or character detailing to give a feel of only there and then and that and together the twists within...at best like in pulp fiction with time fowards and backwards. Chief's way into Rachels hell and what then, will he find piece for his soul and all...What a movie this could be...

My favorite part is when chief talks about his dad being worked on, so institutionalized or maybe in hospice. He gets the chance to save someone from a miserable existence. It tears me up inside everytime.

In case anyone didn't know or doesn't remember they made a reference to this film in The Simpsons where Homer is locked up in a mental institution and meets a patient who thinks he's Michael Jackson but was voiced by Michael Jackson himself

My family met Will Sampson at a pow wow many years ago. (I and my family are also Indigenous). Several of my uncles got a picture with him. He easily towered over them as they were all around 5'10". I grew up to be 6'4" myself. And I was told Will still woulda towered over me! I was too young to have met him myself, but I wish I could've. He seemed to be an awesome, wise, and gentle giant from what I was told. And it woulda been crazy for me to meet someone that much taller than I am. My family still treasures that decades old photo.

This is coming from an official schizophrenic. One flew over the cuckoos nest means they all seem to be operating under one god. One nation under god. I’ve seen it and it all appears “fated”. Just my two cents.

What age was he? He might have grown up in a house where talking was frowned upon. I once ate dinner with a friend’s family. Talking wasn’t allowed other than pass the salt please and thank you. We weren’t allowed to have milk until after the meal. This was alien to me. I was around nine or ten at the time.

Yep, one of the best movies ever. The book by Ken Kesey is a must read, certainly adds to the movie, but obviously misses the imposed visual aspect. That aspect is a great achievement of the director, the cast. The movie is hilarious because of McMurphy's character, totally anti-totalitarian, pro-life, pro-freedom, all the things the USA lost as it is the USA that the cuckoo's nest portrays. The hate for personal freedom by the system, by the institutions is manifest in the movie and very tangible in modern western society. Ken Kesey was a visionary, way ahead of his time. Of course it is highly symbolic that the native american "Chief" escaped the system and became free after setting McMurphy's spirit free.

If ever there was a magic moment in cinema and acting ability at its highest, Jack Nicolson and his counterpart show us why. I have never acted, but in my opinion acting is the most challenging and difficult of all the arts. Why do I say that? Because actors are like paintings and sculptures that come alive and when they momentarily take us away from everything and anything we're aware of, it is only then that your realize something extraordinary has happened. Moreover, the most beautiful and humble and gracious acknowledgement of Nicolson's achievement came from none other, Michael Douglas, who's father I believed wanted to do the role and it was Douglas who bought the rights to One Flew Over the Coocoo’s Nest. Michael Douglas said the same thing, that Nicolson was the not only the right man for the part, but the only one who could pull it off with perfection. I love the movies!!

The 1970s was the greatest decade for filmmaking because the decline of the studio system unleashed a wave of experimentation and rule-breaking, unlike today where corporations are only interested in packaging soulless content.
