Abc news May 24 2024❤ University of South Australia sociologist Jon Stratton said instructions for the Nutbush were distributed to teacher training institutions as a teaching aid in 1975. "Teachers were concerned to get some dance that school kids … would find interesting and want to do," Professor Stratton said. "Dances have been used for years as part of physical education and creative arts and it was in that context that the Nutbush was quite literally invented. Love from a 1976 student of the Nutbush.

I'm American but was just at an Australian/American wedding... this song broke out and all the Aussies started doing this. Wife and I looked at each other like "uhh is this a thing", then we joined in

In America, we have our own version of the "nutbush." It's called the "Cha Cha Slide." It's not nearly as fun and it's basic AF. 🤣

I came from an article on Australian culture where they didn't explain this, just said Australians play this at weddings. I assumed it was from some Australian band that hadn't made it to the USA so I looked for it on KZitem. Its a Tina Turner song I never heard before? Whats going on? Did you folks pick this up when she played at your Thunder Dome in the 80s?

The government funnily enough it was done in an effort to increase physical exercise in schools but in a way that made it more fun thus the iconic dance of our great nation was born

Here in the states I’m a huge Tina fan and didn’t even know this song. The three main line dances still done in 2024 are the Cupid shuffle, the cha cha slide, and cotton eyed joe.
