This was the exact problem I had for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I had replaced the bulb once and looked into this issue by viewing several videos on youtube. I found several videos on resetting the TIPM which this video doesn't mention. I dreaded for 6 months to do anything with the wiring or TIPM. So I kept using the high beams for awhile. Then one day my engine light came on. Bought an OBDII diagnostic interface to see what the issue was. Turns out that there were two codes. One referred to the lamp that wasn't working that the TIPM said had received too much amperage so it was shut off. The OBDII app asked to reset it, I selected yes, turned on the lights and it was FIXED! NO WIRING CHANGES! NO TIPM RESET! The other issue which actually turned on the engine light was an indication of low transmission fluid. Another easy fix. I find it interesting that no one in the comments nor the video mentions anything about using a car diagnostic scanner (OBDII interface) to correct the TIPM. Did I get lucky or is this something that very few people know about the Dodge Ram?

Nick Smith I have not heard of that. I work at a Chrysler dealer and none of our interface devices have that option. That must be a aftermarket thing that can somehow turn the driver back on. Thanks for the info

Nick, what is the brand and model of that OBDII you used? My left side low beam has been out for 3yrs as I am not going to spend upwards of a thousand dollars to repair the problem. I have gotten by using my fog lamps as they are sufficient in illumination and representing the width of the vehicle which is all our laws require.

I read this one other place I think I will start here maybe so as to not splice and jump wires, I'm worried about causing further damage by jumping. This "too high"amperage makes sense because all I did was change my headlight maybe somehow it got a strong shock it didn't like?

Thanks for the video...wondering if this is my issue. 2006 model w/ passenger side low beam inoperative. Checked power at the bulb connector on the good side...with low beams on, I get 11.98v on low beam wire and 10.4v on high beam. When I switch the high beams on, it reverses and there's 10.4v at the low beam wire and 11.98v at the high beam. When I check the passenger side, I'm getting 10.4v on the low beam regardless if the headlights are in the low or high beam position...so it's still getting power, just not enough to power the bulb. Will the jumper trick still work on mine, or is it possibly another issue?

Good rig bro but behind the air box where those wires run to the ecu is a common spot for wires to short, corrosion, come apart, also by your left foot when driving there’s a harness down there that’s also a common area for shorts, wire spits, and corrosion. From my back yard experience with these systems , buying and flipping rams they don’t like shit tap into them. Any aftermarket alarms, kill switches, radios etc can effect the can communication. Check anywhere you’ve added accessories, heat and metal can also effect it. Check where the harnesses are routed for rub and wear and burn marks. Any short, out bulb in the cabin can cause other things to act up as there all tied to the same circuit is how I basically look at a dodge. BMW is another one who does the same thing. I’m no mechanic but I’ve work on a good bit of these as I do my own work as much as my tools allow

SAME issue on my 01' Dakota. Chasing the low beam p/w wire everywhere looking for a short. Ultimately hoping wasn't the driver module, but most likely is.. I was thinking of doing the same splice.. but just wanted to poke around online to see if anyone done it first. Steven Ruisi if your van is a 3.8l, I believe the relay behind the radiator is the external cooling fan relay. It looks like the low beam driver come out of the TIPM. The left is the white with dark blue tracer and the right side is a white with grey tracer. I would make sure your left side driver is not open or shorted to power or ground from your headlight to your TIPM. If it is good jump it over to your right side driver.

Ethan Brule that's really odd, the TIPM has separate drivers that run straight to the lamps, . I will look over some wiring diagrams. Try disconnecting power to the TIPM for a hard reset.

Hey man my sound on the phone is screwed sorry but I have the issue but mine is passenger side that is dead what colour wires do I splice together ?

Hey, for the low beam splice the white with dark blue trace wire on the driver side headlight to the white with tan trace wire on the passenger side headlight. If you can do it at the TIPM it would be easier but you will need to make sure your on the correct wires.

Rather than double the load on the remaining low beam circuit of the TIPM it might be better to use the remaining good circuit to control a relay that feeds both low beams. Also you don't mention if you have a "lamp out" light on your dash. I do, and have done the splice repair and got both low beams back but the "lamp out" light still shows. I suspect running hotter bulbs over stock such as Silverstar Ultras, as I have, overloaded the circuit on the TIPM and burnt it. All these expensive and unececesary computers in cars nowadays make me want to buy an older car I fix anything myself.

MrTdw1954 No "lamp out" light was on dash and this truck was running stock bulbs. Running a relay is a great idea. For this truck it really wasn't worth it, this truck is pretty beat up. I actually just talked to the owner tonight and the headlamps are still going strong. But yeah a relay would be awesome insurance especially when running "hot" aftermarket lights. Thanks for the comment.

With all these problems why don’t they do a recall

My dad’s ‘04 driver went out periodically then finally just quit, then a week later the passenger followed. Guess I’m going with the new TIPM

Why not just change it to a fuse with nothing on it and put the headlights and switch in a fuze?

Seems as though this is common on Chrysler/dodge vehicles...I pulled my fcm off the ipm and sanded/slightly twisted the flat prongs as I heard its typically the fcm that causes this...that didnt work so I checked the voltage at the bulb where the low beam didnt work...nada.so whats left is a wiring issue/ipm issue. At least now I know push come to shove I can jumper it like this.thanks man,btw how long did this hold up?

Craig Shelhammer thanks for the comment. This truck has no FCM and is still running both low beams off one driver almost two years later. Good luck!

I have a 07 Cummins and my passenger headlight has no power at all. My driver side only works on high beam. Does this sound like a TIPM problem? I’ve currently have both batteries cables disconnected and zipped tied to each other to see if it will reset the TIPM. I’ve read and done research and people say it works. We shall see. Anything you could recommend trying? Thanks

Stephen Smith you have a tough one. It sounds like a front control module but you would need to do some more testing to pinpoint.

Romans 12 I pretty much did the same thing you did except I just put a little piece of wire in plug to jump them instead of splicing the wires

Hi great video both of my low beams are out I’m tried jumping the wires still not getting anything Is the the tan and white and blue and white in the same cluster of wire?
@romans1295

Hello! First, If both low beams are out, it’s possible your TIPM or fuse box may have failed and both headlight drivers are bad.
@romans1295

Second, yes you will have multiple wires with the same color. It is important to ohm test your wires from the TIPM to the headlights to make sure you are on the correct wires. Good luck!

I did this on my truck and it worked but when I turn the car on none of the low beams work only the high beams. I am running LED bulbs would that be why they don't work, since there's too much voltage off one driver ??
@romans1295

M Bravo usually LED’s don’t run higher voltage but it’s the lower resistance that mess with the drivers. You said it worked? Did it work for a bit then stop? My second question is, are you sure you are on the correct wires? Third question is, are both low drivers bad?
@mbravo9854

yea they worked while the car was off but didn't when it was on but I think it was the LEDs cause I put in Halogen bulbs and everything works fine now. looked more into it might need resistors to run the LEDs
