Brian May stole Rory Gallagher's guitar tone and made it his own. Think of how many different guitarists use a pbass but still sound different. The only thing missing from having a unique tone is the uniqueness you as a player bring to it.

@@jackrussellbruce7565Yeah, I can agree with this. It does not matter whether I am playing a Jazz, a Precision, Rick or even a dang Wal (once..lol). I like to use the very edge of a pick and I seem to coax a lot of grind out of basses. That's my unique touch which my instrument (JB) supports.

I used to own both.. I have to say they both do have an awesome distinctive sound from one another and both are excellent but I prefer the Jazz with its deeper tones and richness and versatility. I like the thin neck at the top Incredibly smooth action, comfort of the body...a bit heavy but well balanced. I do like the stereo feature on the Rick, its unique sound, lightweight and best to keep both. Just wish my brother wouldn't have stolen my 1968 Jazz bass the turkey......needless to this day, never recovered it and might even be the one Getty Lee owns now..who knows..kinna does look exactly like that one. I miss that bass.
