I explore the idea of feeding power into the Zoom F8 audio recorder using a battery pack with ten AA batteries. In order to get it right, you'll need to use the Hirose power connection on the side of the Zoom F8, which is capable of accepting anywhere from 9 to 16 volts DC. The point of this experiment is to keep the F8 running longer than it does using the standard, 8-cell battery pack which slips inside the recorder. The Hirose connection cable cost me about $36 but the battery holder and DC connection cable I purchased for this video cost me less than $6... and that was the price of materials to make TWO 1-cell battery packs!
This video is a follow-up to another video I made a few months earlier. • Zoom F8 Audio Recorder...
UPDATE: I found a fun, down-to-earth video about basic soldering which you may enjoy... • Beginner how to Solder
UPDATE 2: Zoom has announced a new audio recorder called the F4, which is sort of a stripped-down version of the F8 that still offers great audio quality. It comes with a HIROSE cable and it appears that all of my power ideas for the F8 will also apply to the F4.
