10 is actually not a dumb decision. if there was one planet in the entire galaxy that vader never wanted to step foot on again it was Tatooine. combine that with the fact that the empire was pretty much none existent on Tatooine, lukes homestead was out in the middle of nowhere, and Tatooine was a hub for criminals hiding from the empire (hide a tree in the forest) and you find that the only real threat on Tatooine to luke and obiwan was bounty hunters which obi wan could deal with easily. it is true however that having luke retain the name skywalker was stupid. it would make sense if owen was also a skywalker or there was a larger number of skywalkers on Tatooine but as far as we know the only skywalkers were anakin and his mother. however that was in reality the only stupid decision made. that is untill we get the obiwan series and obiwan leaves tattoine and fights vader before a new hope. when that happens i suspect you will be able to count that as another stupid mistake. the actual stupid decision was hiding leia with the organas. this put her in close proximity with the emperor and vader on numerous occasions due to bail organas job as a senator plus the organa's dealings with the rebels and bails open opposition to the empire also made the empire keep a strict eye on them. all it would have taken is for vader or the emperor to sense how powerful leia was in the force to arouse their suspicions and then its not a far leap to connect bail organa a known friend of padme and the jedi to obiwan, yoda, and vaders children. this is especially true if it was an open secret that leia was adopted and even if it was a closely guarded secret the isb would have little trouble discovering it. i mean think about it. a close friend to padme and obiwan just happens to adopt a daughter who is almost as powerful in the force as the chosen one on the same day that padme and anakins children die. does not take a genius to figure it out and honestly im surprised palpatine never did.

@@lookingforwookiecopilot it is heavily hinted in the ot that leia was indeed force sensitive. for example when luke reaches out to her in the force to tell her to rescue him on cloud city or when he outright says that the force is strong in his family his father has it, he has it, and his sister has it. what actually happened was leia was not originally meant to be lukes sister. it was only after the insane success of the luke i am your father twist that George decided he would try to one up himself with leia being his sister. this decision ended up creating quite a few creapy circumstances and plot holes such as vader not being able to sense leias foce abilities. also fun fact after the success of the luke i am your father twist mark hammel suggested that they reveal boba fett to be lukes mother. they really went crazy with the whole family relations after that lol. finally up untill vader meant luke and was told by palpatine that he is the son of skywalker vader had no idea that they were still alive so he was not actively looking for them. so the best way to hide them was to go to a place where they would never cross paths with vader. that said if he came face to face with one of them and that person just happened to be the adopted daughter of a close friend of obiwan and padme and that daughter just happened to have been adopted on the very same day that padme died and that daughter just happened to have the kind of force sensativity only a member of the chosen ones family could have had then it is not a stretch to say that vader or especially palpatine would have figured it out.

Either Mon Mothma or Admiral Ackbar explicitly say the ONLY way it can be destroyed is WHILE it is being constructed due to how well guarded this central power core would be if it were complete. It was all deliberately engineered as a trap for the rebels AND Luke. 0:32 It is not stupid at all if you keep in mind that Anakin would not come back to Tatooine. He, as Vader, wanted to erease his whole past. Even as Anakin he hated the idea to come back. The "I don't like sand", you know...

I actually think sending Luke to Tatooine was genius. It's the one place they know Vader would make an effort to avoid because he has nothing but bad memories from it and we all know how much he hates sand. They also didn't know who they could trust to raise Luke, but they knew his family would take him in. Obi Wan could have raised Luke himself, but after Anakin he probably didn't trust himself to do well. Not changing the last names wasn't the best idea, but I think when the time came, they wanted Vader to know Luke was his son so he would hesitate to kill him. Honestly, sending Leia to the Organas was the worse decision because they were known close friends of Padme and her adopted father being a senator would put her in the public eye and specifically in the eye of the Emperor. They had to at least be suspicious when the Organas adopted a baby right after a pregnant Padme died.

One of the funniest things I saw a few years ago was someone launching a kickstarter for something like $24million ... for a piece of chicken wire to cover the exhaust port of a new Death Star. Think it "raised" a million or so before the kickstarter ended. The funny guy who put it up had deliberately set the requested amount ridiculously high to prevent the kickstarter from being funded as it was just a joke, but a pretty clever one. This was, of course, before Rogue One explained why the flaw was there and why nobody seemed to notice.

the holes in the reasoning for # 10 can be filled very easy. Vader would not have gone to Tatooine because it was the place that fostered hate for him. He would have been heavily consumed by his hate & despair that it would have clouded his vision & judgement. Add to the fact that the empire had no control over the planet as it was controlled by the Hutts. It was also Yoda's instruction to have Luke taken to Tatooine, meaning he had heightened foresight about Luke's future. Also, Vader would have had no reason to look for his children, as he assumed they didn't survive. Now the Obi-one name issues, that's a little tougher to explain away. Vader was aware he survived, and you would have figured he would have wanted to search for him to exact revenge. But Obi-one may have learned to mask the force in the same way Palpatine did the same prior to him revealing his intentions.

Hiding Luke on tatooine is actually kinda genius. You see, darth Vader was VERY protective about his actual identity as Anakin, meaning it’s likely that he would NEVER revisit tatooine unless absolutely necessary and he would certainly never reveal his ties to the Lars family. Vader himself didn’t know about his children until Empire strikes back and tatooine was probably to painful for him to return to, so Luke war pretty safe from him. As for the rest of the empire, not a lot of people knew Vader had children, and he never would’ve told ANYONE. even in investigations into force sensitives, Vader was probably very careful to limit investigations into tatooine in fear of his identity being found. Anyone who found out about his identity would be dead, long before they could look into his connection to the Lars family, that being said, Luke’s last name staying the same is really stupid still.

Leia knew she was adopted, Luke asks her about her real mother in ROTJ, and we also have confirmation of this in Episode 3 of Obi-Wan Kenobi. As for Jar Jar, he was taken in by Palpaine, as everyone else was, even the Jedi. Also, I always thought it weird that Obi-Wan took Luke to Tatooine, but because ANH started there, GL had to connect the dots so as not disrupt continuity, I suppose. But all these decisions are down to the writers, they're the ones who decide.
@desolation1821

Well the reason behind Tattooin was that Vader would never want to return there because it would bring out too many memories that may bring Anikin back to life. And Vader would not want to risk that. Why they let Luke keep the name of Skywalker though, that's beyond me.

number 4 has a good reason behind it. first of all its not the same fatal flaw. in episode 6 the reason the deathstar is open to attack is because its not finished not because of a design flaw. also the reason the emperor leaked the death stars location despite it not being finished was because he wanted to draw the rebels in to attack it thinking it would be an easy target. in reality the station had a shield around it and was impervious to attack unless the planetary shield was destroyed. this is something the rebels knew and they thought that so long as the station could not fire on them they would have all the time they needed to land a party on endor and destroy the shield generator before destroying the death star. however what the rebels did not know is that the death star was operational and could attack them. this meant that they had to draw in closer to the empirial fleet in order to protect themselves from the super laser which meant they had a ticking clock to destroy the shield generator. also palpatine planned for the rebel landing party which is why he sent a battalion of storm troopers to meet them when they exited the shield bunker. if not for the unpredictable event of the rebels allying with the ewoks palpatines plan would have gone off without a hitch and the entire rebellion would have been destroyed. if there was one stupid decision it was putting palpatine on the deathstar in the middle of such a dangerous battle. the entire empire ran through palpatine so without him there was no empire. putting himself in harms way like that was just not a good decision on his part. they could have built as many death stars as they needed and had all the time in the world to destroy the rebelion. but what they dont have is another palpatine. everything else up to and including vader was expendable but not palpatine.

@@scarabtrooper7709 agreed but there was a certain logic behind that aswell. the idea of the deathstar being the ultimate symbol of the might of the empire and it keeping other worlds in line due to the fear of it destroying your planet was good on paper. and destroying a core world like alderan was a great idea since it not only got rid of a huge rebellion supporter but also showed the galaxy that not even the core worlds were safe. had it been executed properly the first time and not had the exhaust vent design flaw then it would have no doubt worked as intended and kept the galaxy in line without the need for thousands of smaller ships. that said it did not work out that way the first time and because of this it became cemented in peoples mind that the empire can be opposed and the death star is not invincible which meant building it a second time was a huge mistake since it would never have the same impact it would have if the first one was not destroyed. i agree that the better choice was to just build a massive fleet of smaller ships but i dont necessarily think building the first death star was a stupid choice. i do think the second one was a pretty dumb idea though.

@@scarabtrooper7709 oh i agree but the death stars super weapon was designed to generate fear amongst the empires citizens. and a moon sized battle station with a planet destroying super laser generates more fear than a fleet of star destroyers using orbital bombardment. it was essentially designed as a propaganda piece as well as a weapon. like i said i agree the better and more logical decision is a fleet of smaller ships but there was good reasons behind building the first death star. way palpatine saw it he had more then enough ships to keep the galaxy under control what he needed was a single ultimate symbol of fear to make it so rebellion never even enters the minds of the empires citizens in the first place.

This may have been the most grave example of stupidity in the entire series. ***Qui Gon Jinn refusing to listen to the Jedi council.*** Yoda saying young Skywalker was too old to begin the training. And that his future was clouded. Going so far as to forbid Qui Gon from training him while he had an apprentice. But it just didn't sink through his thick head. By unknowingly creating Darth Vader he inadvertently helped to wipe out most of the Jedi and turn the tide for everything he once stood for. Entire races, species and planets were destroyed because of this single stupid decision. I was never so glad to see a character get killed as I was when Darth Maul took him out, before he could do any more damage.
