@@yapyapthedestroyer8129 exactly - in A New Hope, Leia even points out that they were allowed to escape, and Tarkin confirms this when speaking to Vader. The only open question is whether Vader and Tarkin ordered them to miss, or just outright scrambled their helmets' HUDs (the latter would retroactively explain the stormtrooper who famously bumped his head). In Empire Strikes Back, the troopers shoot at Luke but obviously are not meant to hit him, since Vader specifically wants to capture him. Once the troopers actually shoot for real, Leia gets caught with a glancing shot by a trooper (who clearly wants to de-escalate the situation with minimal fatalities, since they tell Han to drop his weapon and put his hands on his head rather than just shooting him in the back). Stormtroopers actually trying to win outright are terrifying: that shootout at the beginning of A New Hope had the rebels in an ideal defensive position, with every trooper coming out of the same small doorway. Such a set-up would normally make victory almost effortless for the defenders, even if heavily outnumbered (which they weren't: the rebels actually outnumbered the troopers). But in this case, the end result is: all of the rebels dead or fleeing, and just two casualties for the stormtroopers. These guys are legitimately SCARY!

I reckon his acting portrayed such a psychology accurately (and I completed a major in psychology at university and participated in Buddhism and self-development workshops all before watching episodes 2 & 3, so I know more about psychology than most people do). Here’s the thing: you can interpret a film in any way you choose. Taste in films is subjective. So, you can interpret a film as “bad” and thus feel dissatisfied… or you can interpret it as “enjoyable” and enjoy it. I did the latter. Why make yourself dissatisfied? Makes no sense to me. Don’t forget a Kyber Crystal is a lot more than just a part in lightsaber. It’s a very personal item to a Jedi, as the Crystal chooses its user, and the Jedi channels their force power through the crystal when using the saber, so it’s an extremely personal item, which makes it so much more evil from a Siths point of view when they bleed a crystal that they’ve taken from a fallen foe. Good point about light speed. Travelling that fast in outer space is not possible because: - no way of stopping or slowing down (zero gravity, nothing to push against) - hitting a tiny piece of space dust at that speed would destroy the spaceship
@cybisz2883

Nothing to push against? I'm not sure I quite understand that reason. Real life space ships have no problem speeding up and slowing down, albeit nowhere close to light speed.
@Seb-Storm

The main reason light speed is not possible (in our universe) is because as long as an object have masa it won't move at speed light. But in SW we have space wizards so I guess earth physics can be scrapped

Han Solo said it in ANH..."point 5 beyond light speed" The Enterprise can travel at speeds geometrically beyond light speed, but I guess no one has tapped that. What happens in Sci-Fi is supposed to defy the known laws of physics based on present technology. In both universes, their starships can travel the expanse of an entire galaxy in just a few hours, if even that long.
@GeniusDad

Echoing KainzMusic, Han Solo said it himself in Episode 4. There do exist hyperspace lanes (Corellian Run and Hydian Way) but those are unique space anomalies that exist along specified areas of the galaxy which is why major space ports and colonies exist along them. They're like natural galactic highways that let craft travel at lightspeed easier. (edit) also, you forgot that ships large enough to have a hyperdrive are also large enough to have shields. So hitting space dust wouldn't damage it. That's Science! XD

@@KainzMusic No in Star Trek ships can't cross the entire galaxy in a few hours. it can take a few days to get to some places, or even weeks. to cross the galaxy it would take 70 years to get from almost one end to the other using warp drive alone, there are other methods; wormholes, Warp 11, Transwarp drive, but even transwarp still takes weeks to a year.

I don’t think Hyperspace and light speed are the same thing cause in ROS Po mentions that the FO can now track Hyperspace so he starts just randomly jumping into light speed. Also in LJ Holdo uses light speed to ram into the fleet if she where in a different dimension that wouldn’t have been possible

I, for one believe that Anakin/Vader did not disappear. Qui Gon did not disappear, nor the Jedi that were hunted in order 66. To disappear, you had to receive special training, and the skill was used as an alternative to actual, physical death. Also, in ANH, stormtroopers were under orders to not kill or wound the rebels on the Death Star. Leia said it herself, they let them go. Vader confirmed this when he asked if the tracking device had been placed on the ship.

So it's more or less explained in Rebels and The Bad Batch why Stormtroopers are bad shots. Because they are just average Joe's who basically joined the military. In Bad Batch the Empire did away with the Clone army and started recruiting regular people.

What should have been #1, (or at least on the list, anyway,) is the misconception, by some, (typically critics,) that Star Wars is a science fiction story. Because, multiple times over literally decades, not just George Lucas himself but also Dave Filoni, Lawrence Kasdan, (Richard Marquand, Irvin Kershner, etc. etc.) have ALL tried to make it abundantly clear that Star Wars should be thought of as science fantasy, not science fiction. There are space Wizards, Knights, Princesses, Dragons, (and every other flavor of weird and wonderful creature,) so Star Wars shouldn't be held up to the same standards as something like Star Trek, etc. It requires the same acceptance and suspension of disbelief as The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Dungeons and Dragons. Expecting the story being told to take a back seat to established scientific laws and principles, like sound in space, or gravitational effects on travel, is just as much an exercise in futility as insisting that The Sword in the Stone or Camelot cleave closely to reality here, on Earth. It's a fantastical narrative about characters that inhabit some imagined, far-flung Galaxy somewhere, where the storytellers prefer the dramatics and truth of the journey over compliance with established physics on Earth. This misconception or misunderstanding about Star Wars drives entire blogs, articles, essays, and KZitem channels. There are some who refuse the immersion completely because it apparently offends their overly critical sensibilities. And, that's why it should be a part of, if not at the very top, of ANY "Top 10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Star Wars" list. (I'm just sayin' ✌)

The plot armor against stormtroopers actually has an in-universe explanation: the Force protected them. This explanation is given in Legends (former Expanded Universe) materials and is confirmed in Canon with Chirrut Îmwe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when he walks through a barrage of stormtrooper fire without being hit until after he's accomplished his mission.

I thought the storm troopers in A New Hope were terrible shots because they were essentially ordered to let them go (or rather, put up a good show without killing them). The empire had installed a tracking device on their ship and needed them to return to the rebel base without suspecting anything (which very much worked).

We're always talking about the Dark side, but Sith Lords are called Darth instead of Dark. So it would have been "Darth" either way which makes that "Donkel" part a non-argument. It could also very well be that Lucas changed Vader's backstory to fit his name. The empire has a lot of Nazi undertones, hence why a name derrived from a Nazi sounding Germanic language for the first (apprentice) Sith Lord of the empire seems appropriate. And Lucas probably wanted Vader to go after Luke and Leia from the start and might have found this chase to be like a father whochoses after his unruly children. The names of the Sith Lords have always been personal. Like how insidious also means: seductive, treacherous, and “having a gradual and cumulative effect.' and Sidious' coup was exactly that: "gradual and with cumulative effect". So the only things we know for certain are that he received the name "Vader" and that Lucas chooses fitting names for his Sith Lords, but also that the names are usually corruptions of actual words like with Sidious.

I knew about most of the facts, and the facts I hadn't heard of, I didn't really believe them or I thought they were ridiculous. Most people think that Obi-Wan doesn't remember R2 & Liea. Obi-Wan just said that he doesn't remember owning a droid, and he didn't own R2. When Obi-Wan says, "That boy is our last hope" and then Yoda that there is another Skywalker, I'm not for sure,but Obi probably didn't consider Liea, just because she hadn't trained with Obi or Yoda. Or Obi-Wan has Alzheimers that could explain stuff.

In the opening hallway scene on the Tantive IV, out of the 10 rebels guarding the bottlenecked door way, 7 are killed in the immediate hallway or adjacent door ways to that hallway, 3 retreat with 1 of them being shot later up the hallway. Out of what should have been an easy bottleneck for the rebel troopers to defend they only managed to take down 2 Stormtroopers coming through the door and 1 further up the hallway. Vader and Tarkin plant a tracker on the Falcon and order the stormtroopers to miss their shots and let the crew escape the death star in order to track them back to the rebel base on Yavin. Otherwise why would they put the tracker on the ship if there was no one around to fly it back to the base. Leia even says once they've escaped that it was too easy and that they were let go. Stormtroopers are not bad shots and it is frustrating that the the creators of Star Wars media today keep pushing this idea to the point where the characters are starting to believe it.

You do realize Qui Gon did not disappear upon his death? And he became a force ghost. And like I quickly saw from another commenter below, one probably had to train to become one. Obi-Wan and Yoda were already well trained. With the added additions Lucas made to the original trilogy, it is kinda easy to tell why the storm troopers were bad aim. Luke did say "I can barely see with this helmet on" and later a storm trooper smacks his head on the door while it was still opening, which is where Lucas put in the digital creation of him tipping back and hearing a clank. Probably the biggest thing people were mislead into thinking Ewoks were cute and fuzzy is because of the old cartoon in the early 80s and that was able to over shadow their real habits. I've watched all three prequel movies recently and have come to realize the backlash was more due to many people refusing to give it a real chance. Now that I've rewatched them, I'm kicking myself for not giving it a fair chance.
