Literally downloading the demo as soon as you said I could hear the music tracks. The combat one sounds.. so familiar... maybe Bastion inspired? It sounds very nice. The way you handled the level difficulty and spawning the enemies was very interesting. Looking forward to see how it scales with increased enemy variety.

1 hour of playing over 2x 30 min sessions: I love the game's aesthetic, its beautiful, unique and you should be super proud and stick with it and be confident its incredible and is honestly in the 1% of indie games, I would consider the character design and style to be one of the best i've seen in a while. The glowing parts of the character or weapons when you get upgrades is beautiful, I love the purple horns!! The enemy design feels unique and fresh each time I play which is awesome! I really like the lobby area, it is pretty intuitive. Here is some feedback that I think will make the game go from great to 1 of my all time favorite indie games (including hollow knight) - Fix the movement system of the game, slow movement does not add to difficulty, just frustration. I notice the enemy AI at the moment is very simple. The player being this slow with only 1 walk and a short dash feels very cut short. I think the character needs a walk and run transition with a upgradable movement speed from the shop, you can still keep the speed slow and scale slowly over time but at least as a player i have the option to do that. If the Enemy AI wasn't so simple and had more complex pathing systems and interactions the movement could also be complex. When you dash the dash should lerp a little bit, it feels quick however it feels like it cuts off to fast, when you get close to your destination you should 100% lerp to that value a little so it feels a bit smoother. If it does lerp, start that lerp a little sooner. The skull boss fight has much to simple of a pattern, I feel like if you added in 1 more attack pattern it will spice it up. With the player dash it would be lovely to add a small % chance to roll just to make it feel more fluid and unique. "adding human sounds to movement in a subtle SFX layer would be cool" - comment from me being an audio nerd! Would love to have breath and subtle sounds when performing actions like heavier attacks a subtle grunt or huff. This is a very subtle detail. When you level up tbh I want the player to automatically run to the top of the stairs more like an animation but wait for me to confirm to move to the next floor. Unless there is something im missing by not exploring around the stairs. I feel like when I play the game's use of going away from auto battling is refreshing and its a happy change, glad i have control over dashing and attacking. The visual fidelity of the game, animations and the way you finish a level is INCREDIBLE. I love it! I really like how quick the dash cooldown is, if it was longer i'd be pretty cut. Overall so far I've really enjoyed the game and cant wait for more! Name on your discord server: Juniper - music producer / game dev / educator if you want some help with audio or want more feedback ping me or dm me :D - Thanks for the games!

Nice job! The game looks very promising. I'll download the demo! Also, an idea came to me: Have you considered using a global config to manage and tune the difficulty for each level? The buttons or input boxes on the right panel may soon get out of control as you create more of them. Maybe a config file plus serializer, eg. XML, PlayerPrefs, Remote Config, etc. ScriptableObject can be constructed from the config and then injected into the Spawn Phase Object including lots of difficulty settings... Doing so could save tons of tuning time since most related settings come from one place. Just my humble suggestion. With you all the luck!
@DannyDeer
Жыл бұрын
That is SUCH a great idea. A simple text-based config will make it so much easier to play with the values. I hate tweaking values inside of the Unity Editor + I already messed up once by updating difficulty values on Ground Floor and forgetting to override the prefab which caused some issues with tutorial. Thank you!

Trzymam kciuki w rozwijaniu projektu ^^
@DannyDeer
Жыл бұрын
To normalne.

I just played the demo for about an hour, some feedback if you're open for it movement speed is way to low feels realy sluggish the hits, the spells all feel realy great so thats awesome Collision damage is a big nono in my opinion cause it feels so bad to just touch an enemy and get hit the upgrades feel very lackluster i dont truly feel stronger other that the doom upgrades which are great the permanent upgrades are a nice to have but once again are too low impact i dont truly feel that much stronger when i have max strength because enemies basicly still take the same amount of hits enemy variatie is very nice, but some enemies (hammer guys) have unclear anticipation animation, the hammer slightly moves upward before he is going to strike and his strike itself is very fast All in all very good demo the game feel is there it just needs more balancing and i think waaaay stronger upgrades or give the player more frequent upgrades because now it takes ages for an upgrade to drop
@DannyDeer
Жыл бұрын
Great feedback thank you. I'll definitely increase the movement speed and will try to make the hammer guys' anticipation animation more clear. I'm not very pleased with the current collision damage as well. But if I remove the collision damage then I guess I would need to add some kind of attack to spiders because without collision damage they do nothing. I'm not sure I agree on the upgrades, they feel quite powerful enough to me, but I agree that making them more frequent would make them more fun.
@SwatHound
Жыл бұрын
@@DannyDeer Keep collision damage for spiders, but consider removing it for other enemies that can actually attack in some fashion. For more work to add to your pile, consider changing the spiders visually somehow the closer they are (angrier/glowing) or some sort of "bite" animation on colliding with the player. But of course, this is how scope increases adding "sorta not NEEDED" things. But it certainly adds to the polish/juice of the game, no?

Your game looks amazing! Sorry for the off-topic question.. In the first devlogs, you said that in most games of the top-down genre there are no 3 components. These are snappy combat, fluid movement and beautiful pixel graphics. What did you mean about "fluid movement"? I will be glad if you answer!
@DannyDeer
Жыл бұрын
Hmm, it was a long time ago but I think by "fluid movement" I meant things like: - Very few (if any) anticipation frames. - Ability to dash even when performing the attack (which cancels the attack) - Good-feeling movement and dashing (hard to describe what exactly makes it feel good) - Back then, the vision for the game was slightly different and it had much more platforming, so probably also meant that the platforming feels good: dashing between plaforms, etc.

I was waiting for this next devlog, great job on the transition floor looks so good. Played the demo died on the floor after the first boss. Tried to join the discord to give you some feedback but the link doesnt seem to be working. I will post my feedback here for now: bugs (don't worry they are super minor and did not affect the gameplay in any way): - credits button in main menu did not work - after beating a round, when the stairs appeared, if i keep walking left i can go off the map / the tiles stop generating - when fighting enemies, i kept dashing to the right and was able to spot some tiles generating in front of me - during the tutorial, the first 2 button prompts for attack and dash did not show (using controller) - in the transition floor, going behind the waterfall/pipe i cannot see the character silhouette like i do when going behind other buildings - when selecting a card upgrade first pops up, the arrow was on the left most card but the middle card was "highlighted" - at the merchant shop, using a controller it does not display the description of each upgrade, it works when hovering with the mouse suggestions: - maybe lock the mouse to the screen as i was able to click off onto my second monitor - maybe still make enemies drop exp that fills the bar instead of just killing them filling the bar, just seems like it would be slightly more satisfying (the exp drops can magnetize to the player regardless of distance to stop players potentially missing some) - maybe increase the size of the health heart sprites slightly - maybe add some controller vibration for certain events (when getting hit / when shooting magic attack) - maybe increase the character movement speed ever so slightly, or have an upgrade at the merchant that can increase it - im sure you will add this already: menus could do with more juice, sound effects animations etc things i enjoyed: - 10/10 graphics and animations - combat is super fun and juicy, the mix of dashing and attacking is great - the difficulty balance seems spot on - transition floor is looking so good, you really brought it to life - epic slow motion on last kill - satisfying item drop at end of floor - sound effects are perfect - the death animation is really good - the transition back down is super nice summary: really enjoyed playing the demo everything is really high quality and you have developed yourself a winner here that's for sure I would appreciate it if you took a few minutes out of your day to try my games playtest as well and give me some feedback. Thank you and keep up the good work.

WOW, that's some great feedback. Thank you. I wrote everything down. "maybe still make enemies drop exp that fills the bar instead of just killing them filling the bar" - I actually thought quite long about this. The problem with picking up XP was that it really messed with the spawn system. But if they were just a visual thing and they would just always immediately fly towards you as you suggest, I think it would be fine and would be quite satisfying indeed. I'll try it out. Wierd, I think the Discord link should work. I generated a new one for you in case you want to join: discord.gg/ufpHVNejze I'll gladly playtest your game. I'll try to do that later tonight!

Dude! I just played your demo recently, and I had to come over here to tell you an extremely bizarre story (at least it was bizarre for me, but you’ll at least get where I’m coming from when I explain) I’ll just do it mostly with bullet points, otherwise I’ll be here all day! -played your demo, very rogue-like/lite but something is very fresh/different about it that I haven’t seen before. (I specifically thought that idea of visual upgrades purchased in game was really cool… and this is where it starts getting weird!) -because there are WAY TOO MANY GAMES being released these days, I will often jump from demo to demo, and forget the name of games I like, sadly your game was no different… - fast forward to the next day and I’m looking through the updates feed on my steam news tab - I see an update for a game that looks a-helluva-lot like yours, but it’s really fast, and has a more modern look with (I guess) polygons? Well, whatever it is it’s not SNES style pixel art! (EDIT AGAIN- it actually is pixel art) - I thought this was the result of buying the in game visual upgrades, and thought it was an incredible transformation from one style to another, and was planning to message you about it, but got sidetracked… - good thing I didn’t, because it wasn’t your game. But you have to go check it out (it’s called “Storm Edge” EDIT- found a link store.steampowered.com/app/2321580/StormEdge_Wind_of_Change/) and tell me, honestly… isn’t it crazy that you and this other developer had such a similar idea for a game?! I mean, the character is a male(which I just thought was part of the story, and there would be some kind of dimension shenanigans) he wears a similar hat and the battle system seems very close to yours. - if I were you, and had some talent, I’d contact that dev and suggest you work together on a sequel where the 2 games combined (like I thought it really was)… but you bastards better cut me in on the millions you make for giving you such an amazing idea! 😬👍

I played the demo and I thought it was fun, however, for some constructive criticism I'd advise trying to make the game more unique. I know you said it's similar to Hades, but some of the enemies, music, gameplay, etc. are waaaaaay too similar to Hades, to the point where it feels like it's not it's own thing, which takes away from the experience. Very well done though otherwise.
