Gameplay of the boss Boss Reptile in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Boss Reptile’s moves:
• Square: [Nothing. He just glitches a little]
• Triangle: Anti-Air Orb
• Circle: Thrust Kick
• R1+Square: [Same as Square]
• R1+Triangle: [Same as Triangle]
• R1+Circle: [Same as Circle]
• Square+Triangle: Acid Spit
• Triangle+Circle: Levitating Orb
• Circle+Square: Acid Slide
• R2: Turn Invisible
Oh boy. Reptile here is pretty awful. He has no regular combos nor strong attacks, and doesn’t even have a square attack for some reason. He does at least have his classic moves; his acid spit, levitating orb and acid slide abilities, and like Johnny he has an R2 move, and also like Johnny it’s to turn invisible. Go Figure. Otherwise, he has his anti-air orb attack, which is pretty useless and very difficult to land, and thrust kick attack which is so delayed that it’s not really worthwhile. Add to this the fact that, once turned invisible he can’t become change back to the normal by regular enemy attacks, and you have a boss who really isn’t very enjoyable to use in player hands. A shame really, but luckily Reptile does have a playable variant who we’ll be seeing in the future anyway. Reptile is one of the game’s earlier bosses so I suppose it’s to be expected that he wouldn’t be overly powerful, but Boss Reptile might well be the most underwhelming boss in the game to play as, which just doesn’t feel right for the original hidden character of all people. Still, as I always say in these situations, c’est la vie.
Up next, Best Girl gets a boss variant.
