Had one of these "Gifted" to me since the keys have long since disappeared so it seems. Got it open with some complaints but the serrations on the key pins looked similar to this and some worse. Key pin #5 in my lock didn't even have complete serrations around the circumference. Drivers were made correctly.

I have one of these with the worst buying I have ever seen in a lock. All of the pins are level with my standard hook pick, except for the back one, which I just raise slightly and the lock opens. I actually posted a video of me opening it. Is there a better core that I could swap out on the new 5200 lock, so I'm not stuck with a master lock core? If I can, what would be the most secure option that would fit? Also, how do I pick out the best security pins to re-key a lock and how do I get a key cut for the bitting I would like? Is there a place where I could just order a key with the bitting numbers and key type once I know how I want the key done?

My father gave me a older key retaining version of this lock and I cannot figure out how to remove the core. I removed the retaining screw but the core won’t come out with the key still in. Any ideas? I don’t think the core is stuck due to age/rust.

There are old Master Locks with cadmium, an element that's seriously toxic, as opposed to chromium, which is an allegedly-essential micronutrient with toxicity in limited contexts.

I will look for it now. But I ended up gutting the lock and it had all crazy pins. It was no wonder that a newbie like me had a very hard time. It was very hard but I put it all back together too. I made some special tweezers using my dremel and making small grooves at the tips so I could handle the pins. Im a 50 yr old guy that lives alone so after work I have LOTS of time to tinker. And I used a pick with a round tip to hold the pins down while inserting the keyway into the bible as You call it.

I would rather have this U.S padlock then the one currently issued to our government now. Atleast this one has any security pins, an un-crimped core, and no bumpstop. Not to mention the current U.S issue 5200 has a cylinder that is made of a brass-zink mixture that looks and is cheap.

Three years later and the quality of American Lock continues its downward spiral unabated. The "US" stamped (military contract) 5200's now have zinc bible/outer cores. With the availability of these getting more and more restricted along with the proliferation of Masterlock brand extensions aimed at American Lock's typical clientele, you have to wonder how much longer Masterlock will keep making these knock-off-quality-at-full-price American Locks.
