The NHL went from a Canadian dynasty, to an Islander dynasty, to an Oiler dynasty in the 1970s and 80s.

I know the New York Islanders were by far the Best NHL Team in 1981 but this Minnesota North Star Team didn't even belong on the same ice with the New York Islanders. Talk about a mismatch. At least the New York Rangers were competitive with the New York Islanders on some level.

Very happy for Al Arbour. He did an outstanding job coaching the team to 4 Stanley Cups and should have caused Scotty Bowman to regret firing him as St.Louis coach. Al Arbour also won 4 Stanley Cups as a player. Very impressive.

Bob Cole won't retire because his "ego" is enormous and he simply won't--he is NOT an outstanding play by play announcer by any means--that honor belongs to the late Danny Gallivan (Montreal), Bill Hewitt (Toronto) and Dan Kelly (who called the famous goal scored by Bobby Orr on CBS in 1970).
