I crashed my xt600 almost a year ago. It was an inch away from being totaled. I finally fixed it a couple weeks ago. I’ve watched this video over and over hoping I could rebuild it one day. This video gave me a lot of inspiration to get my love on the road again. Thank you.

early 80's you mean after 87-88 it was a 5 gear - in 90 they made a 6 gear but wasn't the same bike you couldn't add after market pipe back then anyway plus the early 80's xt;s were 3600 out the door the 90 model was 6 grand now the xtz -xtx different story again big bucks for those babies you could get an 86 xt for 2500 mint cond that's what it boiled down to it was a big heavy bike but for 3800 new what do you want

Very nice bike and the job well done. I am currently restoring a '87 2kf black to it's original. Did you bought the golden rims or did you gave them a surface treatment? Thanks in advance, Martijn

Did you replace both crankshaft main bearings? If so how did you do it?
@NewRetroMotorcycles
6 жыл бұрын
Frank Silva yes all bearings were replaced, the crank was sent to an local engine builder. I believe they froze it over night befor pulling the bearings. The main issue is removing the timing gear which has no key to locate it and must go back on exactly as it came off.
@jsteeves79

New-Retro Motorcycles by chance do you have a name of that shop or know the method they used to hold the gear? I'm in the same situation and I like to see if I can fabricate a jig or if there's something they came up with other than just a scribe mark.
