For today's unboxing review we bring you the 2017 Acura TLX, a mid-size luxury sedan that's also trying so hard to also be a sports sedan. Thing is though, it's not very sport and, in terms of luxury, it's only so-so. Built alongside its corporate cousin, the Honda Accord, in Ohio, the TLX is the replacement for two now discontinued Acura, the TL and TSX.
Acura is trying to position it as a BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 fighter but, despite being a good car, it's honestly more of a Ford Fusion Sport competitor. Our tester was powered by a 2.4-liter inline-four banger with 206 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque and paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch. The optional engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 ponies mated to a nine-speed slushbox. Our advice: save some dough and stick with the base engine; it's more fun to drive and that dual-clutch is fantastic. But here's the thing: the Acura TLX, at its core, is basically a more expensive Honda Accord. Remember, those German cars are rear-wheel-drive. The TLX rides on a front-wheel-drive platform. Enjoy the review!
