How about Diy Connectors/Terminations? I have an HLG-260w QB Kit. I want to terminate the output of a MeanWell HLG-240H-C2100A, and the 18ga solid core wires coming from the actual boards up through the heatsink, with some type of connector (instead of using wago lever nuts). I'm remotely mounting the driver so it's not mounted to the actual heatsink. This could be a jack/plug/connector that I could mount to the heatsink, or one that I can just solder/attach to the 18ga solid core to provide more of a "plug and play" setup, for convenience. Thanks for any suggesions people.

Hey growmau5, I've been watching your videos for a long time and I'm ready to buy another light source for my second tent. I was looking around at prices for COBs in Canada and it looks like it would be cheaper for me to purchase 2x 315 CMH lights than to put together a kit for a 4x4. I understand that I would not have to replace the bulbs of the COBs compared to replacing CMH bulbs and it would probably put out way less heat than 2 CMH, why would I want to go with COBs at the end of the day? I'm just trying to convince myself to do the DIY instead of the pre-built, but I'm just still a little curious to know if there are any other issues I have not thought about?

Hey +enkilseed, according to page 2 of Meanwell's spec sheet for that open frame HLP driver, they recommend a JST SVH-21T-P1.1 crimp connector to interface between the bare wire & the driver pins. You may be able to source these from your local Fry's or google "JST SVH-21T-P1.1" to choose an online supplier near you. You can also purchase these from this link: www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/jst-sales-america-inc/SVH-21T-P1.1/455-1133-1-ND/527367 hope this helps man! www.meanwell.com/webapp/product/search.aspx?prod=HLP-80H

Growmau5, thanks for the video. Twisted my melon slightly. I've got two of these 90w boards on order and was thinking of running them on a separate driver on each board. But now i'm really confused! If i wanted to have the ability to dim and to run the different spectrum, could you give me a recommendation of drivers. .Like having the ability to run the red spectrum in flower? I'm thinking it could be worth while having White 1 and blue on one controller and red and white 2 on another when wanting full power? Not sure how many drivers i should be going for.
@GrowMau5
7 жыл бұрын
im not sure I can advise you any further than the driver options discussed at 9:27 of this video. of course you can always run these boards as a 2 driver setup like you mention: white 1 + red = (46+47) 93v , 1050ma driver 1 on its own power cord white 2 + blue = (46+27) 73v, 1050ma driver 2 on its own power cord

Riverboy, I'm working on this right now. Check for my newer comment. You'll want whites on their own driver, red on it's own, blue on it's own. Otherwise you won't be able to fuck with the spectrum.

have you looked at the new hvgc series of drivers? from what i can gather they run at constant power so for instance take the hvgc-480-l-ab it runs at full power between 1400ma-1750ma and the constant current region is 137-343v, so if you had say 6 x 52v cobs that would be happy running between 1400-1750ma at 1400ma there would be 37v left on the table ordinarily running on a 1400ma driver but they have a pot where you can increase the current turning the left over volts into current so you will always get the full 480w out of the driver, sounds good to me, plus they are fully potted for outdoor use, i think you can run it as low as 700ma as well but you are capped at 343v so wouldnt be getting the full wattage in that case but i think they offer some usefull flexibility ;-)

Honestly, I think the ChilLEDs are amazing with the spectrum customization and efficiency. Since we are in a video about them, I'd recommend two 90W lights spaced 1.5'-1.75' apart, and turn the red down a bit. At 24" it should give you a 200PPFD, and you can turn the red up as they get a little older/they aren't stretching enough. Use a PAR meter to make sure the light spreads well enough and you aren't giving them too much light. On the top, you want to hit up to 600PPFD, so I'd use two 175W boards spaced in the same way. Remember the lights need to be 18-24" above the canopy.

I have a question What is the importance lm/W Is a higher or lower number better
@GrowMau5
7 жыл бұрын
short answer: higher is better. long answer: a typical high output white T5 is approx 100 lumens per watt. more is lumens per watt is typically better/more efficient. Lumen meters measure how bright a light is to our human eyes. Since our eyes are more sensitive to green light, lumen meters report lights that have a lot of green in them to be brighter, more lumens. Since our plants dont care as much about green, we like to use a PAR meter to measure photons. This helps us figure out how good a light spectrum is for growing. Since these chilled boards have a bunch of red & blue, they dont look that impressive on a lumen meter:: 120 lm/w. but under a PAR meter (which is really what matters) they measure up very well, possibly leading the pack for 2017 tech.

I'm researching dimmable drivers for TWO(2) of the separate blue and red channels, as this will be a common configuration. I'm going on Mouser and using their rather awesome sort tool: For red: ELG-100-C1050B to be best. (92 of 95fV, 96.6 of 99.75W, 3in1 dimming) $30ish For blue: ... this is where I get stuck. All $20ish All (54 of 62 V, 56.7 of 65.1W) None are great efficiency wise. (85ish%) PCD-60-1050B ODLC-65A-1050 IDLC-65A-1050 I THINK IDLC and ODLC have the kind of dimming we use for everything. The ELG-75-C1050B is good, but $10 more than the others. (54 of 71 V, 56.7 of 59.85W, 90%eff) Anyone have thoughts?

a j u have to no the volts get a multimeter and find out the voltage that it's putting out to know if it's going to be a no voltage to power a cop remember if you have a driver that has enough current to power one cob controversial but you can wire and parallel but must be perfectly wired correctly in evenly to try to help it distribute the voltage evenly
@GrowMau5
7 жыл бұрын
when an led driver is labeled as a 50 watt driver, it can be any combination of the following: -watts of driver = driver DC output (volts) X driver DC output current (amps) example 1: 50w= 50 volts x 1 amp (1000ma) example 2: 50w= 25 volts x 2 amp (2000ma) example 3: 50w= 100volts x 0.5amp (500ma) For a cob like a Vero29 gen7 you must ensure that the 50w driver from ebay or where ever has at least 36-38 volts for the vero to even turn on. You may want to familiarize yourself with the different versions of Veros (,b,c,d) etc . some veros are 50v. check out pages 4 & 9 of this spec: www.bridgelux.com/sites/default/files/resource_media/DS93%20Vero%2029%20Array%20Data%20Sheet%20Rev%20A%2020160622.pdf

Forty_Cal .....He already has. If you go thru the vids he has posted you'll be able to see how much GM has helped THOUSANDS of people build their own lights. Take good notes and you'll be able to build it yourself! Or if not, at least you'll know how to evaluate commercial light fixtures to pick the most appropriate one for you.

Oi Growmau5. Your videos are so nice. Love them all and especially the LED technology but my fucking english is to bad and you speak to fast for me to understand everything :´( Can you give me a simple hint with simple words, whats your favorit LED-Constillation for best results. The range of your constructions (and the facts in english) overstrain me. Keep it on.

Sorry about that I suppose you get swamped with private messages and bound not to have time to reply to them all. Ok so I would love to have a set of LEDs to replace the HPS but with me being a Quadraplegic stops me from doing anything really (Completely paralyzed from the neck down) I'm able to use a computer with the aid of this piece of genius equipment www.orin.com/access/sip_puff/ One of my mates is good with electronics on a good day (He has MS) and would have the knowledge to put something together, This website seems to have a lot of equipment whether any of it can be used to make a light capable of producing plants with the potential to out yield a plant grown under a Gavita E-Series Pro Line, In the same system, Nutrents, Medium ect. uk.rs-online.com/web/

Im not feeling the chilled boards. They seem over engineered, costly, too much blue, too small foot print etc. They only get the big numbers cos of all the blue and who needs to be able to dunk your light in a fish tank full of water?. Happy to be proved wrong once there are some real world results but the dude who makes them seems to grow leafy greens with them as far as I can see. Veros ftw.

Roger Ramjet 27 out of 175 watts is uv & blue, that's only 15%. Perfect in my opinion. But chill back, I'll run em thru. If you convinced, cool. If not QBs or Veros may fit your style better. Cheers guys.

Yeah cool man, like I said I am happy to be proved wrong but that is just my first impression. I already run Gen 7 Veros so I may be biased...:) I am going to add a couple of your far red initiators though and see if I cant get my Blue Dream to finish before 11 weeks!!

Roger Ramjet veros are really good, I think you are already in good hands. Perhaps maybe one chilled would beef up the spectrum a bit. And, I will cover the merits of hybrid builds:: price, spectrum, even coverage etc. thanks for the comments 👍🏼
