Not sure if you've already chosen a method to creating the key warding, but you could drill key points into the core with a drill press then connect the holes with a coping or scroll saw. I've actually thought about building a wooden mortise lock or one out of polystyrene. My idea was to create a giant mock-up lock as a gag gift with a challenge lock give away. Never had I imagined people actually making working wooden mortise locks, let alone a really nice book about making them. Totally awesome gift.

Thanks, have a look at my latest video, I think I nailed the warding, it was the one thing that was really worrying me.

Pete, when you start making wooden locks watch out for lock picking termites.

Man Pete you really have a heck of a talant there bud. I wish I still had my tools. Anyway, I see these types of wooden locks on US Ebay for at least hundreds. You may have a hell of a side business there too. Just awesome work my friend.

Thanks and really glad you're enjoying them, I have no plans on selling any, I just make things for the enjoyment, I've always found that commercialising things takes the fun out of it.

In pine you can cut the warding with miniature chisels made from wiper blades, probably not in hardwood. A coping saw won't be accurate over the length of the bible. I think it will take a Dremel.
@peterestall

Thanks, that was my plan, I have an attachment to use the Dremel as a router table, so I'll probably try that first.

Hey Pete. Have you ever heard of "ipe", otherwise known as iron wood? It's the hardest and heaviest wood I've ever had in my collection. I'll fill you in on the back story on how I obtained the stock that I have. Let me know if you'd be interested in some iron wood. I need to send my cousin a piece still in California. I'm sending him quite a large piece and still haven't figured out how I'll mail that piece to him, but I'd like to send you a piece when I send you my next challenge lock cylinder, which I'm currently halfway done designing.

Thanks, I've heard of it, but never come across any, so that would be great, looking forward to it.
