Arguably one of the best spells for a Moon Druid. Make a Flaming Sphere, Wild Shape, and profit.

Stick it behind your foe, grapple him so he can't move, his butt sizzles at the end of his turn. If he escapes grapple and flees, you get an opportunity attack since he must go at least 10' away from you to escape the flaming sphere.

So basically you create a miniature sun that you can control and use for crowd control in a narrow passage. If you toss out some oil ahead of time on someone with an action and then move it with a bonus action, you can do some real damage.

I like to imagine it as a Sun looking sphere. and creatures are dodging sun flares. Also, this could be a battering ram. Or used in a performance.

Paired with Booming Blade or Grasping Tendrils Tattoo, this spell can be painful. Creates a great lose/lose scenario for the target.

I love this spell with my celestial warlock. I use it and Sacred Flame to make an opponent have to dodge 2 things each round, and since we're high enough level they both do 2d8 and have the same save.

1:42 What is the "it" you're referring to that makes it seem like the components are consumed?
@ChancesSpellbook
4 жыл бұрын
It just feels more thematically appealing to me. Imagine a caster throwing the components into a fire, and watching it come to life and turn into a sphere of fame. It's just SUPER cool!
@Oniphire
4 жыл бұрын
Thematically sure but mechanically it's like saying...um...I suddenly can't remember and don't have a PHB handy but I believe Minor Illusion has wool for a material component and that doesn't have to literally be thrown over someone's eyes to figuratively pull the wool over someone's eyes. Fireball uses bat guano if I'm not mistaken and that also isn't actually ignited. Correct me if I'm wrong. Again, no PHB in front of me. Overall my problem with making it consume the material components, ignoring RAW, is that it sounds like a bit of a nuisance. Just a small one but still a nuisance so I wouldn't ask a player to burn their components but at the same time if they thought it was fun and wanted to do it I'd 100% let them.
@ChancesSpellbook

Question so does damage hit a creature that is in another 5 ft square next too it our the 5 ft square its on, because the wording says 5 ft from it. Does that mean 5 ft from its center or 5 ft from its outer diameter?

What happens if a gelatenous cube consumes a flaming sphere?
@chrissharp8751
6 ай бұрын
That depends on if it ends its turn on the flame sphere or not. RAW does not mention that flame sphere is an object nor creature, therefore a gelatinous cube can move through it with no problems. If the cube were to end its turn on or within 5 feet of the flame sphere, it would take 2d6 damage, and half if it succeeded its saving through. Also, because the fire on the sphere is magical, I see no reason that a gelatinous cube should be able to extinguish the flame sphere by engulfing it.

Can you move the sphere away from an enemy and ram it against it to do a bonus 2d6 damage?🤔
@ViolosD2I

The movement does not specify a straight line so I'd say yes, you can do a circle. Or just ram it into them while already adjacent.

When ramming an enemy ending the bonus action, does the sphere occupy the same space as the enemy or the adjacent? Rather, is the sphere solid?
@nathanfivecoate5848
2 жыл бұрын
I think it's solid and has mass since it seems like it's affected by gravity, letting you do things like cast it over an enemy's head, have it fall on top of them proccing a save, then ram the sphere into another enemy or have it do a u-turn and strike the unfortunate foe it fell on a second time

Hey Chance, 2d6 fire damage per round for one minute. Averaging 3-7 hits points per attack per target caught in the 5 foot radius. Bonus action to move (Can you use your action to move the flaming sphere another 30 feet? It only has to be next to a creature to do damage). Sounds strong! Thanks Chance & have a great day.

@shisno314

The casting of the sphere is the action on your turn. As a bonus action on that turn and all subsequent turns you can move it and ram people. Since it only says as a bonus action that you can move it that means you can’t move it as an action on the turn you cast it or any other turns. However, you can technically cast other non concentration spells on subsequent turns after you cast the sphere and then use your bonus action afterwards to move the sphere again and ram someone.

I'm new to the game - but those materials look really specific. Realistically, how is a PC expected to get them?
@SovereignVis

Really? "Jump it across pits up to 5 feet wide". All the sources I have found for the spell say "you can direct it over barriers up to 5 feet tall and jump it across pits up to 10 feet wide." Where are you getting your info from because I keep seeing in your videos there are many things that are off just by a little bit?
@ChancesSpellbook
4 жыл бұрын
I get my info from the source books, that being said I do make a lot of videos. So every once and a while I do make mistakes, I have a pretty great community that really helps keep me in check! If I catch it soon enough I can usually reupload the video, but if the videos been up for a while I can't pull it in goof faith. Instead all I can really do is pin the comments so everyone can see it, I also put all of the info in the description in each video.
