After not making a footbag for about a year I forgot how to do it and I came back here to remind myself of some details like where to start stitching the panels. Thank you Ivan for making this guide available to us!

Hey Ivan! Excellent tutorial! I was clearing out some stuff recently and came across all my old footbag stitching supplies. Had me feeling motivated to stitch another 32 panel and see how it goes. I took your template and designed rudimentary stamps for the hexes and pents in Fusion 360 (firing up the 3d printer as I type) and was wondering what sort of ink you would recommend. Thanks!
@IvanBuilds
2 жыл бұрын
I'd go with a standard ink pad ink, water washable, in a dark color that shows up on your fabric color of choice. Silver ink is handy for black fabric, you can get some at craft stores and amazon.

@@IvanBuilds Thanks Ivan! I've always struggled with stitch placement when stitching 32 panel bags. Is there a diagram out there anywhere that shows exactly where stitches should be in relation to the corners of pents/hexes? I'm pretty good at keeping my bite consistent, but my pents always end up way less defined than your bags and other big time stitchers like Hania and Waylon Lew.

Thanks a lot for the video tutorial. Well done. You mentioned 1/8" bite. Is this still how deep your seems are? I know on modified a few stitchers claimed to be 1-2mm bite. Awful shallow that.

Just got my small order of 'Ultrasuede LT(light)" from Fields Fabrics (25$ for 10 5"×7" precuts shipped to PA) Glad I followed your recommendation from somewhere in these comments~the quality,& thickness of their material is perfectly consistent across all 10 precuts of different color.(I ordered 2 10$ 5packs) I assume you've experimented with the next size up in thickness(which I believe is 'soft')...is that the variance you used in this video ('soft' pentagons,& 'light' hexagons)?
@IvanBuilds

I prefer to just use light, soft tends to be a bit too thick for my liking

Hello!, I did finished my bag, awesome tutorial!, but it turned out to be smaller or same size as a golf ball, any idea why?, could it be too much gathering or smaller panels? I'm using 2cm by edge, also I was really struggling to pull the strings on the gathering process, it was easy to gather the nearest edges to the pulling threats but a whole different story from the hardest edges...my fingers are soaring from pulling :( , I noticed the better the stitches the easier was to gather but still not as smooth as your video, could it be my "extra strong threat" that I'm using? (think as a regular threat tho), many thanks for the video, you made me make my first bag since 13 years!
@IvanBuilds
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sounds like maybe your fabric might have been thicker? I guess it also depends on how smooth the weave is on the thread you are using... My braided fishing line is quite smooth and almost glides through the holes. Other people have used floss, or even waxed thread to help this, but I find that braided fishing line trends to work best for me. If you want, you can send me an email with photos of the inside of your bag before and after you gather and I can give you some feedback. You can find my email if you go to the about tab on my channel (only shows on desktop version)

Hello Bro! @@IvanBuilds, thanks a lot for the fast reply sorry that I didn’t got back to you earlier, I’m using Ultrasuede LT (which you probably know it works like butter) so if I have to bet I’ll say it will be my threat since comparing it to your fishing threat it constantly gets all twisty and messy... also being my first bag in like 13 years the stitches are not the best ones yet and it complicate the gathering as well. I’m trying today with bigger panels since yours look bigger than mine (from 2cm the edge TO 2.5cm) so it might be easier to handle and I’ll get a bigger and I guess standard footbag size cause the one I finished is at least like 85% full (60g steel pellets)... Unfortunately I didn’t took pictures of my process to show you but I’ll definitely will update you with pictures of my next bag and it would be a honour to get your review! Cheers man! ☺️👊✨

@@criswellin1 sure, worth a try. As you increase the size of the panels, add a millimeter or two to the diameter of the gathering tool and the bag will get bigger. Good luck and enjoy the process! Each bag will be better than the last and that's the most fun part for me.

@@IvanBuilds Yes! Thanks mate!, my braided fishing line has arrived and I can’t wait to give it a shot, just to double check, have you used Ultrasuede? @@criswellin1 yep, I use ultrasuede lt from Fields Fabrics. Regular ultrasuede is generally thicker and only works for larger bags/panels

I was wondering if you can use this pattern and instead of filling a ball for a portion of it volume, fill it for max of its capacity and use it as a juggling ball. I'm just not sure if it would be easy to finish stitching when it's full. Did anyone try it?
