I'm still a kid, but I know im gay. Obviously. they'll think that I don't know what I'm saying. I want to find a way to show them that i'm actually gay. Lil Update: I asked my parents what they think about kids being gay or lgbtq, and I showed them a picture of a kid at a pride parade. My dad said that they were being stupid and 'what were that kids' parents thinking?! You can't be born gay, he was influenced by the media! He doesn't even know yet and he made such a big decision at such a young age!' My mother agreed and was a bit suspicious on why I asked that. Im just gonna. stay quiet until I'm like 16 or 17, probably 18.

Last year on June 3rd I came out to my mom as bisexual. Turns out I'm lesbian so my goal was to come out again on June 3rd. She was talking about getting Pride merch so I said "Oh yeah, you know how I came out as bisexual last year? Turns out its just girls" it was so casual, she accepts me like she did a year ago, and I asked her for the date and told her my goal and it was June 4th she said it was close enough and we could pretend. I was so happy I wanted to cry. Especially since she already found out I'm non-bianary and got me a pop socket with non-bianary flag colors so now I have that and a rainbow pin. It makes me really happy to know even if I'm not out to everyone :)

Well, my parents just don't understand that you don't need to be ''older'' to know about your sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. I just want her to know more about me, I tried to tell my dad and my brother about it but they said the same thing ''it's just a phase.''. Sometimes i feel wrong, trapped, it's like i don't belong here and they still say it's just a phase. I have a gf (obviously my parents don't know about her, i mean we have the same age but since i was born female my parents would say ''I can't believe you're a lesbian'' or smt like that) but i didn't tell her that i'm a genderfluid, i told her i was trans because i thought i was a trans man,, yeah i was wrong but i didn't knew what genderfluid was. Well, i just wanted to share the things that happen to me and tell to everyone who's going thru the same things that... YOU'RE NOT ALONE! Stay strong! You're valid

(4:04) I thought I was bi when I was 10 1/2, then a few weeks before my birthday my crush came out to me as non-binary. then it hit me. I knew I was pan. I'm surprised I didn't find out sooner. And now me and my crush are dating! - w - also, I plan on coming out to my parents as pan, Asexual, and Agender after I'm done with collage and I move out!! I'm going to come out with a cake and a pun with the frosting on top! in the order of: Panromantic, Asexual, Agender! Edit from 1 year later (not exactly, but still): I have found out that I am Omnisexual and I still don't know if I'm Asexual or Demisexual at this point- also I ended up coming out as Omni and Agender early- they don't use my pronouns (they/them) or preferred name- Edit: 4 years later, I'm trans (he/him) queer, and something on the Asexual spectrum, I'm not sure yet. I'm not dating the person in question anymore; haven't for a while. A lot of discovery and questioning has gone on, and I finally said "screw it" because I think I just needed to realize I'm not that intricate, and my sexuality is too confusing

I came out to mom without any preparation. I just -- told her, being stupidly happy and excited, that I am a boy. She called it unnatural, when I made her tell me her opinion. She also said that she was not surprised. For a few months, we didn't talk about it. I expected her to react differently, because -- well, she did always use the correct pronouns of my trans friend, after I explained her the science of being a trans. Because she called me a boy before. I still remember a dialogue we had, that cannot be translated into English with all the details. We discussed how I'd probably rather merry my female cousin than have a husband, and in Russian the word "marry" is different depending on whether you talk about getting a wife or a husband. She said it as if my sister was a husband; then, she corrected herself, "you'll get a wife. (pause.) Because you're a boy." It was obvious, in a sense, for both me and her. Still, when I came out to her, she called it unnatural and asked me to not talk about it. Months after, I brought it up again. I was talking about my friend and his experiences coming out to his parents as trans. I explained how they felt, and he felt... obviously, the conversation went to the topic of our family and my coming out. I explained my position. Told her I understand that it may be sudden and strange for her, but it is not for me. She said, it was and is. She needed time to process it, before and back then, too. She said, she hoped I would change my mind.She also said that it didn't matter what she thought, and that her opinion wouldn't change the fact that she loved me. I asked her if she would change her mind. "Maybe," she answered. "Perhaps, with time." Now I live alone in another city (renting a flat with my cousin, ha-ha), study in the university and only talk with my mother by phone. We don't talk about it. I use male pronouns (in Russian, it's impossible to talk without stating your gender, a constant reminder of who you are) when I talk with her. Sometimes, she repeats after me, and her voice sounds thoughtful and uncertain at times. It seems to happen more and more often. Perhaps, with time she'll get there. We'll get there.

Your advice is greatly appreciated. I can see how this also applies to those of us who came out as atheist/non-religious to fundamentalist family and community. We're also ostracized and get disowned and threatened with homelessness when faced with family rejection. Some religious countries will even kill those who come out so it is actually dangerous to do so. I can empathize with how scary it can be to come out of any closet that is your identity.

Hello, I am from Turkey (15) and I recently decided to come out to my mom. I always try to test the waters and been doing the same for years and YEARS but just can't decide whether it is acceptable for her or not. She says she does not mind LGBTQ+ folks but she is supportive of being "normal". When I asked what normal meant she obviously replied with men being with women and women being with men. I know her thoughts on gay people, she is fine with it. Kinda. But when it comes to women of LGBTQ+ I have no idea. I have been bi ever since I entered middle school. I have seen people like me and some came out openly when middle school was ending and I was like- wow, the thing I am has a name for it? I never knew lmao. My mother and I went through a lot together. I try to be as supportive as possible of her but I think she may not be. A few years ago when we talked about this topic she said she would send me to therapy to try to "fix" me but then again it was a few years ago. I will try to teach her the labels in our community and would act according to her recent reaction. I think it is kinda safe to come out to her but this gamble is too much for me to take. I don't know what to do... Is this a good idea? because I am really tired of keeping thing from her.
@mirlo5109
4 жыл бұрын
You should probably find a way to check if her views on therapy have changed, because if they haven't it might be better to wait a few years until you're a legal adult, or until she changes her mind. Your safety is top priority. Do you know if she is aware of how ineffective and damaging conversion therapy can be? If you do decide to come out, as advised in the video, be sure to have a backup plan. As a fellow closeted individual, I wish you the best of luck in whatever path you decide to choose. Stay strong, and remember you're amazing just the way you are!

This has really helped with tips for later! I’m REALLY not ready to come out and I’m a little afraid of what the out come might be, because my step brothers like to make fun of the LGBTQ community and some people on my dads side of the family laughs with them. Plus, my step dad on my moms side just thinks it’s ridiculous. I just need to build up the courage to tell the people that I think will support me. I’m a little young but I know that I’m trans/non-binary. My sister is also pretty open about her sexuality so I’m able to ask her any questions that I have(she’s 23 btw). She told me that if I come out to my mom, she might try to “guilt” me out of it. And I already know that she’s not very accepting of trans people. Edit: A few months before I knew I was trans, my mom yelled at me because I didn’t want to wear a shirt that she bought for me. It was really feminine, and she knows that I don’t like clothes like that so now I’m really scared to come out to her.😣

If your mom is going to be transphobic then don’t come out to her. Don’t invite people to your party unless they will celebrate with you. I going to come out to these boys that I’m non binary who aren’t exactly my friends but hang out close to my friends (at high school 🏫.) I’ve told one of them though a friend (who knows and is a closeted bi at school but no longer at home) messaging him. I get my friend to ask him questions like, “are your friends transphobic?” which according to him is no. And “what the best way for (my soon to be dead name) can tell them without being dramatic?” Which he doesn’t know how because he’s cis straight. All the boys know I’m bisexual (sometimes with the things I say they think I’m a lesbian but that’s only because I’m bi that liked way more girls than guys) and have nothing really against that. They say “that’s gay,” sometimes but they do have an openly gay friend. I might come out to the nicer ones first though, because it’s mentally exhausting pretending to be cis girl and make sure I don’t accidentally out myself.

I have a tip on coming out (though this may or may not work because I just thought of it): Come our on April Fool’s Day so that if your family seems to not be accepting you can abort mission with saying April Fool’s. However plan out how you are going to display emotion as part of the “prank” and learn to control them just in case (you don’t wanna show fear after saying April Fool’s because then they may realize you’re not joking, especially if who you are telling is intelligent with body language and god forbid psychology)

I think it's important that people should know that someone could come out as one sexuality\gender identity and then realize it is incorrect. Like, someone could first come out as bisexual, and then realize they are gay later on. It doesn't mean that we are deciding and it is a choice, it means that they haven't realized their identity yet.
