It's such a shame that brilliant documentaries like this are all but a thing of the past. I actually find it tragic how appalling documentaries have become during the last ten years or so. More often than not they are mean-spirited, incompetent, and sometimes outright fraudulent. Heart of the Angel perfectly captures how all documentaries *should* be made.

Fantastic documentary - I remember using Angel in 1983 to go to a gig at the Hope and Anchor. I loved the characters in this film. I remember people like that but you don't seem to come across them any more - bright, stoical humorous people who never really had a chance. I hope the pretty blonde girl got away from the fluffing gang before she ruined her looks and her lungs.

the corporatisation and 'professionalisation' of work in the UK - combined with the decline in english language skills amongst london's population native and otherwise - has robbed us of this world of charming, funny, eloquent workers. nowadays you'd be sacked or at least hauled in front of the boss for showing the personality and wit of these people.
