How do you deal with harsh light? Just leave the camera at home?

Great tips! One of my favorite techniques is having your subject in the shade and the background in the sun. Makes for nice vibrant blurry backgrounds and makes the subject pop. Works even better with a touch of fill flash!

Bright overcast is awesome - nature's soft box 😀 Golden hour in the north of Scotland is still nice and long in the summer - just about to head up to the northwest coast for a week and hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of that!

Another tip depending on ISO could be to shoot raw and do a +100 -100 shadows highlights and modify your look with the curves. Shot at a zoo in bright light and and this seemed to work well. Golden hour is of course best but I hate waking up early as I have to wake up at 4:40am for work!

Good point, you can to an extent fix some harsh lighting in post, though you have to be quite subtle as it can easily start to look over-processed.

Yes, even overcast light where objects just barely cast shadows can be great for wildlife photography even midday.

4:00 am early? Nah, when I photograph the golden hour in the morning when it's summer , it is often between 2:30 am and 4:30 am

Not if you are in the UK! The earliest sunrise is 04:42am on the 21st June so good luck getting golden hour before the sun rises 😁
