"The game from hell" lmao so true. At the time Adventure of Link was current many of us often wondered if there would ever be another Zelda game after that. ALTTP seemed like a miracle when it came out. There's tons more references in Breath of the Wild to the zelda 1 and 2 time period. Not just to the games. There's also the old man in the beginning who reminds me of the "It's dangerous to go alone guy. There's two things that remind me of the old animate series. One, Link's horse in the promo stuff is brown. If you watch the cartoon that used to air with the super mario show Link had a brown mare named Catherine. It didn't have the white legs or the white on the face but Link's new horse really reminds me of her. Also Zelda wore pants in that series. The Shiekah Shrines totally remind me of the old underworld entrances. Even though the ones in the original game were decorated differently it's still the same small single opening above ground into an underground labyrinth set up. I now look back at the original game to those dungeons and I'm pretty sure they were also built by the Shiekah.

You do not have to be influenced by anyone to come up with that. I had nicknames to a lot of games before KZitem and social media was even a thing. Just because others might have called it this does not mean this person did not have the same idea. I called the Goomba from Mario owls for years before I realized they were not owls. Others have called them owls too, that def was not a case of copying as I was around when the NES game came out and played it when NES was a new system. It is entirely possible for others to think of the same stuff, a KZitemr more often than not gets their inspiration and ideas somewhere else. All they do is gain success in presenting topics in a cool way and then giving their opinions. Tons of fans have opinions just as interesting but without the ability to look descent on camera, sound descent and present the videos well, the channel goes nowhere. I am not trying to put down any KZitemrs but they are certainly not gods who have origional thoughts all the time and who realize and say things before anyone else. Esp given their age. Most of hen were not born when the NES first came out and people think the older generation did not come up with similar stuff. My dad is in his 70s. He played NES a lot and he is he one who got me into gaming. He is a huge pervert and I myself have heard him call it testicle rock back in 91 and based on my mom complaining and his word choice, he def had called it that in a previous year at some point. He had specifically got on to show me because he use to assume I would never beat games. I had actually already been there, I just did not know, at my age, what he was talking about because I was not a pervert and I do not have testicles on my mind.

@mrtoxicwasteland
7 жыл бұрын
Connor Dobberstein I've noticed the back story for zelda 2 heavily influenced breath of the wild. while z2 sucks game play wise. it was still fundamental in early development of zelda. just poorly executed. for example impa in z2's story informs link of the events that have happened. which are kinda irrelevant. zelda had a brother who tried to share the secrets of the triforces to wizards and what not. zelda disagrees and one of her brothers accomplices strikes her down with magic. sealing her in a deep sleep. this is when Impa notices a boy with the triforce marking and informs you that there are 6 crystals that need to be placed on a shrine protected by guardians in the palaces scattered around hyrule. it is only when you reach the final shrine that you realize these were simply an sheikah implemented test of courage for the "chosen one" to obtain the triforce in order to awaken zelda. as the wish of the triforce is the only thing powerful enough to break the spell, and so starts your journey. notice the themes associated with this story, shrines with gaurdians stand as a test of courage. zelda falls victim to a slumber. heavy sheikah influence. it all just screams botw. at one point impa reveals zelda in her slumber using her magic to break a seal on the shrine she's been put in by her guilt ridden brother for safety. not unlike the shiekah technology used in botw used to lock shrines until a chosen one appears. in z2 link simply showed signs.of the triforces on his hand. signaling impa this was the boy of destiny. the only one capable to aquire enough courage to deal with this problem. even if she needs to have "Guardians" at the shrines to prove he's good enough for the palace he stands in. remember shiekah people act as the kings, zeldas, and ultimately hylias secret service. wether that be gathering intelligence, innovation or just plain advice. they're master planners as they have always been since skyward sword, the final challenge if you will, is conquering your own demons to obtain the true force. a familiar plan but here its implemented by the shiekah culture. not directly hylia or the goddesses like skyward swords tests for example. my point here is when Nintendo said they're returning to their roots. it didn't just mean zelda 1 but the concepts behind their earliest ideas that may or may not have received good criticism based off technical limitations. these ideas included in botw, belive it or not, revolve around the concepts behind a critically acclaimed failure. notice it was the critics who say it failed. perhaps Nintendo had sincere intentions for the direction of zelda 2. just poorly implemented them. cause yenno.. nes

It's not bad period. The haters just suck at the game & should learn how to play it instead of complaining. It has hands down the greatest combat in the series. No 3d Zelda will ever match it because in 3d Zeldas you are punished by a variety of ways. In every 3d Zelda game with Z-targeting, I've always had times where I had an enemy targeted only to attack a wall or jump strike at air or be facing the other way. In 3d Zeldas with breakable items, you are being handicapped in the combat by having the weapons you rely on during combat break or shields you defend with shatter, leaving you defenseless. This happened in Skyward Sword & BotW. I hated the breaking shields in SS & they exacerbated the problem 50-fold in BotW. And in all 3d Zelda games, you get fucked by the camera when something is blocking your view (like a pillar or wall when the camera is situated at a weird angle) or in the case of BotW, you get sniped by shit that is offscreen (died many times in BotW due to that), which also happened to me in Twilight Princess, a game I actually like most of (everything after you get the Master Sword). Zelda II has none of these problems. There is no targeting and it's all up to you to manually engage the enemies. There are no breaking weapons or shields & therefore you are never handicapped in any way. You get magic spells that when combined with your sword attacks & shield blocks grant you the opportunity for damageless victory over any enemy once you learn how. And there is no camera to hold back enemies & enemy attacks from your sight. If you get hit it's because you failed. Zelda II gives you a bunch of sword swings, the down thrust, jump thrust and timing you have to learn. Some enemies are fought by jump attacks. Out of these enemies, some are best fought attacking prior to hitting the peak of your jump (on the way up) while others are fought best attacking them after the peak of your jump (on the way down). It's up to the player to find out and to cater his/her strats based on the enemy being fought. There is absolutely no handholding and nobody to blame other than yourself if you fail with how fluid the controls are. They are so precise that if you play the game on an emulator or anything but an NES, you will end up screwing yourself due to the input delay, which anyone who plays on an NES will instantly feel if playing the game on any other medium (RetroArch with latency reduction is probably the closest to console). Zelda II is a game with a fair hard difficulty while Breath of the Wild has to handicap you with breaking items and blinding you from sniping enemies to have a non-fair (or bullshit) hard difficulty. Zelda II requires you to be skillful while BotW requires you to be well stocked to take guaranteed damage & recover from it. Also, Zelda II is such a non-handicapping experience in combat that it allows you to beat the game with Level 1 attack, which is a fun challenge that I've completed at least twice. Try using the weakest weapon throughout BotW and it would have broken within minutes of picking up that weapon.

The bokoblins are simply there to serve as the cannon fodder enemy. There are plenty of other enemies that you can encounter that will wreck you if you're not careful.

You did a fantastic job covering the boblokins being red and blue, but you also left out the silver ones, unless your goal was to point out the similarities from classic original Zelda to BOTW Zelda then spot on. Have a great day.

4:35 Correction: Since A Link to the Past.
@MLennholm
6 жыл бұрын
Your correction is incorrect. A Link to the Past was the first game to use that logo _in the west,_ but the Japanese version (Triforce of the Gods) still used the old Japanese logo. Same for Link's Awakening. They started using the western logo for the Japanese releases with Ocarina of Time, hence OoT was the first Zelda game where the familiar logo was used for BOTH the western AND Japanese release.

the bunnies are called Pols Voice. In the manual it says they can be killed by loud noises. On the Japanese Famicom the 2nd player controller has a mic built in, you can yell into it and kill them.

Zelda 1 was before my time as well. But it's nostalgic for me as well. My 4th grade teacher, Mr. Williams had an M82 NES display console packed with games. I don't remember all he had but I remember Zelda 1 and Metroid. We got to play a little bit on Fridays during fun Friday.

Zelda II is a game from heaven. Its completely fluid & targeting-free and camera-free combat will never be topped in the series. The player can't blame anyone but themselves for messing up. There is no camera that either gets situated the wrong way or doesn't show you enemies sniping you like in every 3D Zelda, there is no targeting that messes up and causes you to strike walls or nothing at all even though an enemy is targeted like in the 3D games, and no damn breaking items that handicaps you during combat. It's up to the player to succeed or fail and learn the combat techniques to defeat each enemy.

Don't know how well you know Zelda 1 since you're born in the 90's as you say, but it was the 1st game with the very famous twin mountain peaks known as Spectacle Rock which returned in Zelda II, A Link to the Past, and A Link Between Worlds. Even Link's Awakening had a twin peak mountain reference in Koholint in the Tal Tal Mountains just east of Turtle Rock. And Majora's Mask has 2 things that can perhaps be viewed as references to Spectacle Rock---the twin peak looking buildings of Goron Village which look like they are actually hollowed out mountains in which the Gorons are living in, and Twin Islands between Goron Village & Mountain Village. The Wind Waker has Spectacle Island which is actually the top of Spectacle Rock with the rest of the mountain buried underwater. Twin Islands in Majora's Mask look very similar, like they're the tops of mountains submerged under water. Spectacle Rock comes back again in Four Swords Adventures where you fight the helmaroc king. EDIT: Oh I see you mentioned Spectacle Rock in #1. Still, it appeared in so many games so what I said above is relevant.

I cringe every time you say "mechanic" in point #5. Enemy variants is not a mechanic, it's simply elements with different properties. Mechanics are player actions, i.e. the things tied to button inputs. Stabbing with the sword is a mechanic, throwing the boomerang is a mechanic, etc. Mechanics are what allow the player to interact with the game system in a meaningful way.

How about the Octorocks being the throwback to Octorocks, since they're, you know, in the game... Guardians aren't a throwback to anything

I got the NES for Christmas in 1986. Not long after that, I got the original Zelda and my fandom began. The game that really cemented the franchise as one of my all time favorites was A Link to the Past. The light world and the dark world mechanic was revolutionary at the time. My friends and I spent hours trying to figure out how to beat it. There was no internet. We just had to figure it out ourselves. It really was an amazing time. If there’s a game that makes me feel nostalgic, it’s ALTTP.

I like how one of the weapons you get is just simply "Sword" - and in the description is tells you it's "dangerous to go alone". It's only a 20-something level but whenever I get it, I hold onto it forever...

The twin peaks are more reminiscent of Zelda's title screen, but with the water eroded down to the base. iirc, there was another mountain range that looked like the booklet image.

I did not even get to play the new one, probably never will.. but this video made me cry.. The Legend of Zelda was the first video game I ever saw.. I fell in love with it immediately. My Father told me that my uncle had been playing it for months since its release with my cousin, and I made the classic mistake of causing for his save to be erased.. 😅 When I saw his reaction to that, coupled with the story I has heard of how long he had been playing, it evoked a sense of wonder in the scope of his investment in this adventure I had never felt before. That was my first love.. 😢😊
