So why not just run a short shaft 235 water pump 235 is or at least used to be a common swap and I know there's a short shaft water pump available for it because my own 235 has one. Is there something else that makes that a less than ideal situation?

I think you have to make one by pressing the flange on farther and cut the shaft off and use a different pulley but this leaves the fan in the wrong location. Alternatively yon can move the radiator forward but that requires cutting metal. These are just things I’ve read I have no personal knowledge. What year is your car?

Thanks for the video... I recently bought a 1950 Chevy Styleline Deluxe 2 door that had the original 216 engine in it that was cracked and leaked water. The guy I bought it from tried jb weld to no avail. The price of the car also included a 235 that was date stamped as being built on March 27, 1956. He was going to swap the engines but just got too busy with work and his tractor and vintage snowmobile collection, so sold me the 235 engine, the transmission, starter, carb, water pump, starter, etc.for the 235. He said the 235 was too big to fit in the 1950 chevy, but probably the fan shaft could be cut down. From watching your video, I'm thinking what you have done here might work for me. I was also thinking of using an electric fan as it would take up less space. You have a 53 Belair But I know my body style went from 49-52. I don't know if 53's engine compartment changed.... Do you have any thought on my situation? Where did you hear of this water pump swap? Anyway, much appreciated. Cheers

Vegan ist I think it would be the same in your car. I forgot where I got my water pump adapter but a google search came up with at least 3 sources. It’s the easiest way to go and I have had no problems. Good luck with your project

I did not... but I have heard that you should to keep from spinning the water pump too fast

@@robertcox2335 were you having over heating problems before you change the water pump ,because I put a 235 Chevy engine is a 1939 Chevy and the motor is from a 1955 Chevy now my car is running hot wow

@@54rickyg it does run above 160 on a hot day but it has not overheated. The radiator is new 3 years ago. I may add an electric fan for low speed cruising

An electric fan would be good for driving slow like a parade I’ve don’t know anything about an electric water pump

Why did You use a 216 water pump? I've in the auto part's business 56 Years there's got to be an easier and better way.

It keeps the fan in the same location also the 235 water pump is to long and the radiator won’t fit in the original location
