I have an F-16 poster that breaks down every -- most by simply attaching various pods -- configuration & mission they can fly, including nuclear. And this was before the latest variants & extras came along. Two pilots from my brother's ANG F-16 Squadron transferred to one they'd trained and was called active and they flew in Desert Storm. From what they said when they transferred back I believe the F-16 could be the most versatile fighter plane ever designed & built.

Just FYI a regular civilian can't buy an F-16. They are for sale, but each sale needs to follow ITARs and be specifically approved by the US Dept of State, which is basically impossible, and takes years at best. The only civilians flying F-16s are defence contractors working for the US govt, and it took 7 years and a USAF contract to get that approved.

For the F-16 I think you also have to be a former fighter pilot to fly one of these in US airspace I don't know if a civilian with no military experience on the jet could get the clearance . There is a good youtube doc about a US guy who bought a Harrier from the UK, he had as lot of trouble getting the paper work to fly it but he justified it as the purpose was to use it in airshows. He was a former military test pilot with 100's of hours if not 1000's on the Harrier so the authorities let him fly it in the end. But he had to strip out all the fun stuff like radar and any weapons capability. Even then there were constant checks on him and he was told one minor digression from regulations and they would ground the jet. Its not just the maintenance costs, getting clearance to fly a " Hot Jet" their words, is not easy, the authorities are well aware of the capability of an F16 they are not going to give clearance to anyone to fly it in civilian airspace.

Jimmy, I love how you say "swallow" at ~2:50 during the Me 262 part. I rode in a C-130 one time in 1991. On the way to Europe for the Gulf War. We rode in a C-5, an incredibly smooth flying airplane, from Dover, Delaware to Lakenheath, England. With a meal and and a complimentary sedative for the trip over the "drink". The only airplane I've ridden in where I could not tell when we actually landed. I heard the power reduced, flap motors several times, gear down...and then we were taxiing. No windows to see outside. It was raining anyways. Next, we took a C-130 to Frankfurt, Germany. The C-130 is, without a doubt, the loudest airplane I've ever flown in. By orders of magnitude. Impossible to tolerate without ear plugs. Seriously. I love the way you describe the C-130 as just a larger version of your Cherokee 6.

Over a year earlier in 1990 I hopped my way across the Pacific after I got kicked off an over booked "Freedom Bird" out of Clark AB Philippines I first flew in troop seats on a C-141 from Clark AB Philippines to Yakota AB Japan, then in backwards facing "airline" seats on a C-141 "Medivac" flight from Yakota to Hickam AFB Hawaii, then to Travis AFB California. I also deployed with 26 other USAF Security Policemen from Eaker AFB Arkansas to Moron AB Spain, & returned a week later, on KC-135s during a "Operation Desert Shield". On a KC-135 you have to wear an O2 bottle at all times in case of loss of cabin pressure. As soon as we were airborne, and could move about the cabin, 3 guys claimed the boom pod & went to sleep.

Phased array radar basically means that you no longer have an antenna that you need to turn mechanically to scan the area; it directs the beam electronically. Heyo, C130 Mechanic here. I have seen the airplane carry MRAPs, Fire Trucks, Artillery Cannons, and nearly any other cargo you can think of. It has variants A-J (as well as K, which is used for refueling) My time has been spent on the J variant, but I know plenty of people who worked on the older H model. There's even a version designed to fight forest fires. The one with the big gun in the side is the "Spooky" version, the gunship, and it goes all the way back to 1967. It's armed with numerous guns (including a howitzer!) and because the airplane can turn in a fairly tight circle that made it an excellent candidate for a circling gun platform. That's the AC-130. Then there's the EC-130, which is much more secretive, it's not armed with guns but with radios and jammers. Edit: Also, the "Falcon" should have been called the "Viper", personal opinion, I think Viper is cooler.

I did 10 years in the military. You couldn't GIVE me a C-130. Loud slow and it'll beat the hell outta you. And I have to agree with you on the Mig 25. Probably the ugliest bird to grace God's sky.

Biden: "you know that thing, the 2nd gun you have, and the blood of, you know, well you're going to have to have F-15s and nukes." Me: "hold my beer, I'll run by the gunshow here in Texas and pick up a Combloc Mig or Sukhoi SU 27." ....."checkmate, you couldn't stop an unarmed nut running around wearing horns....."

Just a couple of corrections. 1) The Me-262's have all been bought, except one. It's not an airworthy example either. It's a static 262, built by Stormbirds, along with 20 to 25% original parts from Luftwaffe Ace Walter Nowotny's crash. 2) F-111's are in museums. You can buy an odd piece here, and there, but that's it. Australia was the last country to fly the F-111. Before they were sold to Australia, the RAAF agreed to destroying any remaining F-111's that weren't placed on museum status. I believe the RAAF saved a few. The rest were destroyed, and buried, in 2010.

@@thomaspaterson2251 The F-111's were buried. A contract was put in place, by the US, in order for Australia to recieve the F-111's. In that contract, it's stated that if they weren't placed in museums, they must be scrapped.

No F-111s are left flying or for sale. Whatever was not preserved in museums ended up getting buried. We do have a F-111F sim being restored though.

The big question should never be; Do law-abiding, US civilians have the right to buy Military Arms? The most important question is; Why does our government sell, and in many cases give, all types and capabilities of weaponry paid for with US taxpayer dollars, to other countries, special interest groups, and persons of political affluence that knowingly hate America and it's people. In almost every single case, those weapons have been used against us.
