I lived in a neighborhood/apartment complex where I was the "criminal looking" neighbor. Not that I really do, I just have tattoos and piercings. Ever since I moved in there, the older neighbors have tried everything to get me either kicked out or to move out to the point that I didn’t feel safe in my own home. They sent multiple complaints to the person in charge of the apartments, they sent compaints to my mom who owned the apartment, they harrassed me outside and invaded my privacy by peeking into my windows. I initially knew that they were acting crazy, but I eventually started questioning myself and wondering if I truly was the problem. Turns out, I wasn’t being crazy after all. 6 months after I moved in with my boyfriend (my mom still owned the apartment, but it was unoccupied), she received 3 complaints. One of them was that I was being too loud and blasting music at night being a nuisance. I had not been there for 6 months. No one was in there. So they were either lying, or someone else was blasting music and they collectively just assumed it was me. That was my first time living alone, and as stupid as it sounds, it has traumatized me to a certain extent. I don’t feel safe at home, especially if I have neighbors. I get extreme anxiety when there’s a knock on the door. It was exhausting. I would have understood if I actually was a problematic neighbor, but this seemed to be just because I looked different and didn’t really fit in with the others. I was never welcome.

My ex was on Neighborhood Watch and before I moved to be with him, I knew a guy in Neighborhood Watch where I lived in another state. All I can say is Neighborhood Watch is a crock of 💩. They don't do a dang thing, they're always pointing fingers at everyone, everything, and yes, anyone who's different, gets targeted automatically. Neighborhood Watch is nothing but a bunch of wannabe cops, who can't understand that Neighborhood Watch isn't for cop wannabes, and the Neighborhood Watch where I lived, the guy would stalk me and my roommate, saying that he was just keeping an eye on two single females. I told him to stop it, or I'd call the cops, because he also had an extremely jealous wife that I had been warned about, and her adult kids joined her in stirring 💩, so he either backed off, or else. He backed off. When my ex was with Neighborhood Watch a guy got into trouble for going around acting like a cop, and he followed a young girl to her mother in law's place, and she was just coming in from the store, and had walked home. He didn't like that she wouldn't tell him her name, and where she was going, but she didn't know him, and I didn't blame her, so instead he scared her by stalking her, and following her to her mother in law's. Smooth move ex lax! I find Neighborhood Watch a huge joke.

I imagine most people nowadays live in towns and cities where it's highly possible their property may get broken into. I too, have lived in a city in the distant past but since 1989 live on the farm I inherited. I don't raise hogs anymore and have since opened a motorcycle salvage yard on my small 9-acre acreage. It's by appointment only. 3 times, people have shown up out of the blue. The first time I verbally got them to leave. The second time I called the sheriff while I stood on the porch with the butt of my .22 rifle never leaving the boards. The third time was the worst. Six young guys pull up, get out and without knocking or calling out, just head toward my 1,000 parts bikes. I come out again with my .22 and yell at them to stop. Nope, not stopping. I fire into the air as a warning. Two stop while the others carry on like nothing's amiss. I'm thinking, WTF? The two, I ask, can I help you? They tell me and I say, I have nothing for them. They turn around, heading toward their trespassing buddies. Another bullet into the air and... no reaction? Only after several shots hitting the ground close to their feet do they all finally stop, turn around and head for their car. Without a word they drive away. Very strange! Thankfully, none ever came back and these instances were decades ago. Otherwise, this is a nice, quiet area. Consider getting out of the hectic, less safe city and moving out into the country. You won't regret it. There are high paying jobs with benefits everywhere in this area. Peace.

Being able to work from home is helping many people move out of cities that want to. I live in a city. Please don't tell the deer, racoons, ground hogs, possums, skunks, owls, and other critters in my neighborhood that they're city dwellers. Lol. I live in the middle of town too. There's no such thing as a real city in Appalachia I've decided.
@52ponybike

@@michelewalburn4376 Appalachia is beautiful country with its trees and hills. I've never been anywhere near it, it's on my bucket list. Where I live is nothing like where you live. Rolling hills but mostly flat land and perfect for farming the crops that feed the nation. There are deer living in a stretch of trees on my land and I pray they don't wander away during hunting season. Owls are safe here as well but destructive varmints like possums, ground hogs, skunks, fox, coyote and the worst varmint of all, raccoons, are dispatched on sight. I'm not a hunter at all but there should be at least a week's worth of open season on Bald eagles as there are hordes of them here.
