I went to the website provided on the plastic parts bag - you download the file (1500035) and there's the instructions. You have to remove the entire steering column, including the steering wheel with a wheel puller. :-( Good luck - I'm sure your above average mechanical abilities will complete this just fine. Was happy to see a nice length video posted this morning - makes my coffee break ever so much better! Thanks Wes! :-)

Funny. I just put that cylinder in a 7410 today. I find it easiest to pop the steering wheel off. You usually don't need a puller for 7010 series. Then you can slide the column with the wiper switch and signal light switch up off the shaft. Don't take it apart to unplug. It unplugs up under the dash, and then feed the harness out with it. Then you can take that brown part off the dash that keeps falling down on you, right off and everything is open. For the bottom pin, I use a small two jaw puller to push it out without bending the tabs. I use the puller to push it back in too. Good luck!

if you put a flat screwdriver in the slot below the handle on the lock nut and hit it to loosen the nut, then the cylinder will thread down once the bottom pin is punched out no need to open the dash.

Atleast if you are doing this yourself the part is the only really expensive bit. I bet if that was in our local Deere dealers, running on book time repair hours . That would be a $400 plus bill for shop time on top of the $235 part cost, and being in Canada. The part might be 30% more expensive to with the $ exchange.

@jeffp9421

+Ryan Mandl Same factory means nothing. Im not saying that all aftermarket brands are bad or that they are not sometimes the same part as you get from Deere. But not everything is worth saving money. And I am a dealer for multiple aftermarket parts companies. Take injectors for example. Rebuilt from Deere are more expensive than rebuilt from aftermarket. Likely rebuilt with the same parts. BUT the aftermarket ones only have parts replaced that are out of spec and those parts only. Some may be close to worn out but are still in spec so they stay. Deere on the other hand does a complete rebuild. Disc mower blades are another example. The Deere blades last twice as long as the aftermarket.

TAKE MY ADVICE make it easy for your self do it the way i do them!!!!!!!, i done these plenty of times al you need to do is unscrew the cylinder from the block that the allen screws go through, pop out the bottom pin/screw and run the new one up in there in the reverse order saves ripping the hole thing apart, try it on the 74 if u haven't already done, just means you use the new cylinder but the old block stays in the tractor :)

+jake legg Which is why things are made the way they are, dealerships DON'T want you to fix it for yourself, they want you to bring it in so they can fix it and over-charge you for doing so. Something breaks, you fix it yourself, dealerships lose a lot of money. Only money they make is, selling you the part(s) you need.

my farther used to deduct what he thought i broke on the farm. so i came up with a hourly rate difference he made working at ppg and what i made working the farm. seemed when he worked the farm he got payed more. So since i worked twice the hours on the farm over 40 than he did under 40 hrs i used his rate of pay. Oh no that what never work he said once i gave him my bill. now i did get a hefty wage increase after that but still no where what he paid himself on the farm. And he still was only art time help. +Michael Mac Tavish LOL. Big huge 170 HP tractor. When Kubota comes out with something 300-600 HP then you can say big huge. Kubota is a consumer tractor. Less retail and built lighter. Also less dealer network. Wes likely didn't have time to search the internet and wait for one of these parts to be shipped to him. (maybe he did, IDK) But if I was in the middle of spraying, I would go to Deere and get the part to get going again.
