What nutrients are in maple syrup? My Dietitian says no added sweetener is good because it's just sugar so it has nothing to offer. Wendy x

+BlackBlood74 Your dietitian is right about "refined" sugars being nutrient-dead and while natural sugars should not be the main ingredient in any meal, they are a certainly a great option to sweeten baked goods especially applesauce! High quality maple syrup not watered down by HFCS or other ingredients is actually a source of antioxidants and minerals. The brand I use is by FORBES WILD FOODS. Remember that sweeteners like this should be used sparingly.

hey Joy! I love watching your videos and they are really really helpful. Keep on doing uploading such videos!! I wanted to ask about oats+bananas. I guess, generally fruits are easily digestible(get digested in approx 1-2 hours) and oats are high in fiber(clearly it takes longer to digest). I have heard that if we mix fruits(like banana) with oats, fruit gets digested quickly and oats takes longer time so the fruit starts getting fermented which results in bloating! Is that true?

Joy, what is your opinion on blackstrap molasses? Been researching benefits, but I would like to know your opinion since I don't recall your talking about it. Thanks:)

+Maria Amundsen I use blackstrap molasses when baking my Good Morning Breakfast Cookies! It's a good source of iron and has a really nice distinct flavour. I also drizzle it on porridge in the colder months.

Thank you these great tips, Joy! Two questions: How do you feel about stevia, and is there a difference between Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon?
@joyoushealth
8 жыл бұрын
+Luke Levitts Great question.. I just posted my thoughts on it right below this one :) Basically I use it very sparingly because it's so intensely sweet however, has no effect on blood sugar. Re. cinnamon, there are actually many different kinds, more than just cassia and ceylon. And yes some are superior in antioxidants but the most important factor no matter which brand you buy is that it is certified organic to maintain the purity and freshness to get the most nutritional bang for your buck. This the brand I buy: www.simplyorganic.com/products.php?ct=sospicesaz&cn=Cinnamon+Ground

+ruhi samani That's probably because you are literally addicted to it. Sugar stimulates the release of feel good neurotransmitters such as dopamine. In your case, you probably need to literally cut it out cold turkey and yes, you'll go through a bit of detox but it will be worth it. I used to be addicted myself and I was able to recover ;)

Love this video. Would you ever go vegan? Just curious, I've been experimenting with it to help health and the environment.
@joyoushealth
8 жыл бұрын
+laurenbello Hi Lauren! The short answer is no. I'm a blood type O and I thrive eating plant-based with high quality protein. As long as you choose the best quality food it is not harmful to the environment. It is the factory farmed animals that are the problem. No matter if you are vegan or paleo, the key is to eat plant-based.
@Hdieh672hiu
8 жыл бұрын
+Joyous Health Is that a problem? I read some things about the blood type diet, but I'm not convinced. I'm O+ and thrive on not eating meat. When I eat meat my body shuts down,produces a lot of pain, exhaustion and massive problems. But ever since I've cut all animal products many symptoms and huge problems are (almost) gone.

+Gigi Natuurlijk Blood type isn't the only factor that will determine which diet is best suited to you, but I have found in my clinical practice (and personal experience) that it is a very important point to consider. There are many other factors to take into consideration and each person will be different based on what is going on in their body and environment in addition to their blood type. Everyone has unique needs and I'm happy to hear that you've found a diet that allows you to thrive!

How about stevia?
@joyoushealth
8 жыл бұрын
+auguste auguste I use stevia in moderation because it is incredibly sweet and even though it is natural, it's a bit too sweet for me. I use it in iced drinks in the summer. But I only use either the whole plant or certified organic liquid. The white powder stevia grosses me out, seems way to refined and unnatural.

whats wrong with agave?
@joyoushealth
8 жыл бұрын
+Aalia Mahmood When used very minimally (such as in a raw dessert that you've eaten a restaurant) that is totally fine. The problem is most people are using it every single day in their smoothie, on their porridge, in their coffee and it is a very concentrated source of fructose (hard on the liver, and can actually make you GAIN weight/fat). While fructose occurs in all fruit and other natural sugars I've mentioned in my video the main difference is that there are many other nutrients delivered within "whole" foods -- enzymes, B vitamins, minerals etc. that are not present in 95% of agave on the market today.
