What purpose does that socket had cap screw serve in the bearing itself? I have an 824 OE with the same bearing. I was wondering if I could get that screw out and get some oil or grease into the bearing without taking the whole machine apart.

I don't remember much about this video. I have a very bad memory. I hope this link helps you... www.snowblowerforum.com/threads/toro-impeller-bearing-replacement.959/

@@OldLenn Thanks, I figured it was likely there to prevent that piece from spinning which after reading these responses it seems to be true. 👍

@@OldLenn I ended up taking mine apart and putting a grease fitting in it. That screw is also a plug for the oil cavity for that bearing. I can definitely see why these fail so soon. It's too much load and speed for a plain bearing like that. Well see how long she lasts now! I'll give a shot of grease each season.

Thanks for the post. I have to replace the 2 front augers on the same model and this was very helpful on how to crack the front from the back . Sounds like I will likely deal with a bearing issue in the future. Cheers!

IMO, that bushing is the weak link of the machine. Great machines, but they needed to change the spherical bushing design many years before this model

Howdy fellow Ontarian. I've been pulling me Toro 828 oxe apart after nailing a chunk of concrete. I noticed after hitting the concrete that the impeller blade is hitting the back of the shell once engaged, hence the pull apart job. I'm hoping it's not my gearbox, but probably the bushing/bearing as the impeller blade doesn't look bent. I have been having an issue trying to get that pulley ridge or flange off the impeller shaft, which you seemed to pry off with a screw driver and a hammer. Do you simply nail this piece in once you're done your repairs? I've been hesitant to do this, but it seems the only way to get the bearing out without dismantling the gear box! Many thanks with any help you may be able to offer.

Hello ! A quick answer to your question is "YES." They're just held by 3 bolts/nuts. For more detailed video, I recommend you watch Donny's Channel. Here's the video link, kzitem.info/news/bejne/totmx4KJp5Fjdag & GOOD LUCK, my fellow Ontarian ! :)
