This cine film (movie) projector from the Paillard Bolex G3 model series, is capable of showing 16mm and 9.5mm cine films, and was intended for the serious amateur. It was manufactured in 1937 - and then cost 60 guineas in the UK - about £4000 in today's money - and considered to be one of the best of its kind at the time. Virtually all metal construction the transport mechanism featured helical gears and sprockets, rather than the more common belt drive of most other systems - probably the reason why this Swiss made projector still works today.
It was used by my father to project the films he took in his Parish in Wigan in the 1930s of Boys Brigade Camps, St George's Walking Days and other events - some of which films can also be seen on this Channel - and which were DIY digitised using this machine and a Panasonic GS400 Camcorder.
The G3 range encompassed 8mm, 9.5mm and 16mm formats in both single and multi-format variations, as all 3 gauges were in use at the time. The films he took can still be projected today, though in the colour films the dyes have long since faded to pink.
