Same. Its a roller bearing so most likely some sort of stainless or chrome steel. I have no idea what sort of properties that will have after a forging process but it would be super interesting to know

@@Rizzjizzle Oh yeah for sure. 52100 is super likely but obviously you can't know just from seeing the rusted bearing. I just generally worry about its hardness and possible chipping or inability to hold an edge. And what the heat treatment has done in that respect too

It doesn't, that's why it rusted in the first place. During original use, the bearing would likely be coated in grease for lubrication and corrosion protection. That's why kitchen utensils are usually made from Stainless Steel

@@linkzyofficial yup. probably wouldn't use chemical bluing though because... chemicals, I'm pretty sure it's just chromium oxide or something but there are still better options like rust bluing or hot oil bluing
