That was fun. Loved the lyrics and hope our two countries will always be able to poke fun at each other. I couldn’t give an opinion on the beer because that is not my drink of choice. But my family has always talked about Canadian beer being stronger. Always look forward to new posts from youJohn as you keep reminding us that we are more alike than we want to admit. Happy New Year to you and your family. 👏👏🇨🇦🎉🎈🎊

Halifax is a most beautiful place, which I have visited numerous times throughout my life. My maternal grandparents and great-grandparents were born there, and in Bridgewater and Chester and grandma survived the Halifax explosion. I'm in Toronto, so it was a twice a year drive/flight since my earliest days to visit family and get to enjoy all that is Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. I'm going to recommend a few A-1 pub and dining spots which have stood the test of time, which I'm sure you and your family will enjoy. I'm certain I saw The Lower Deck in that song, and it's in an old stone building on the waterfront. Just a great place to go to have a pint, some food and live music. Next is Salty's on the Waterfront, known for it's fish and chips, but has a full dining selection. Named as one of Canada's top 100 Restaurants, I discovered The Press Gang restaurant one trip while walking up and down the steep side streets in Halifax, and a favorite of Sydney Crosby and quite a few Hollywood stars. It's just a homey, warm and wonderful spot. There are a couple of fantastic Oyster Bars too. You will enjoy visiting Alexander Keith's Brewery to watch, and to imbibe. It is said his ghost still wanders there 140 years after his death, and I must say that if you're going to feel old "spirits" who wander, Halifax is the place to do so. I always enjoy your videos and I hope you come visit your neighbours soon!!!

Tim Hicks is awesome. He has a lot of great songs. Probably my favorite of his would be "Got a feeling" which he did with Blackjack Billy. Great song. It's really the energy in the two songs I enjoy the most. Tim Hicks is from Ontario. Not sure what town exactly I just know he is by Niagara Falls. I think when Tim Hicks did stronger beer he was comparing the bigger brands like Alexander Keith's, Molson Canadian, Budweiser, Miller etc. The bigger brands tend to stay in the 4, 5, 5.1 kinda areas. The local, small brands tend to go over that. I'd like to see you react to more Canadian artists. Shania Twain, Terry Clark, Paul Brandt, Emerson drive, Celine Dion, etc. Heck even Nickelback is Canadian. They're from Vulcan Alberta. Quick edit: I just watched one of your other videos, the one on the Calgary Stampede. It's a great event to check out. The grounds are used for other things. Concerts, hockey games, local events, etc. Ironically Beer fest is hosted there usually in August. If you ever get the chance to travel to Alberta during the Stampede I highly recommend going to the event and checking it out. The temps are usually in the 25-33 range which translated to American is 88-95. We have a dry heat. So plan ahead. make sure you drink lots of water. A gaming buddy from Arizona was in Lethbridge a few years ago. His words "your summers are no joke." He thought he could handle our heat but he certainly was not expecting it to be so dry. Try the different foods. Please look up prairie oysters before trying those. They are not seafood. Most of my gaming friends are Americans. They tend to know what mountain oysters are but not that one. If you want to try authentic Alberta BBQ check out Big Sky. It's in Okotoks which is about 15 minutes south of Calgary. They are roughly 2 minutes out of Okotoks but considered as part of Okotoks. They are across the highway from a livestock feed store, and share roughly 30 feet of a gravel road with a ranch. You generally will see a herd of cows in the fields. The best brisket, ribs, pulled pork, etc. Saturdays they have live music. Generally a local, small name but they are great. The staff are super friendly. Just a great place all around. Every 20 minutes or so you will hear a cow moo. I don't know the significance of it. Thank you for your content. It's been great following along. I'm excited to see what you react to in the new year. Happy New Years to you and your family.

You're absolutely right John about our beers being the same strength. When I was a kid we acquired and drank Carling Black Label, Molson Canadian and Lucky Lager. They had a stronger flavour when compared to Bud and Miller giving the impression that they were a higher alcohol percent. When you make it to Halifax its Alexander Keith's India Pale ale that you're looking for that started in 1820. Grab a brewery tour at the waterfront for about $30 CDN, sample copious amounts of beers then wander up the hill to check out the Halifax Citadel fortress...or try this in reverse. lol

Ossified, haven't heard that one in years. Alexander Keith's. We lived in Nova Scotia years ago and my husband swore by Keith's. Then, we moved to Ontario, and he couldn't get it. When the brewery discovered they had lost one of their best customers, they tracked him down, and low and behold, their product became available here. But, alas things change. New owners, the beer was no longer brewed in the Maritimes and apparently, according to him, it no longer tasted like home. Now, he mostly drinks European beer.

I've heard that there's no difference in alcohol content between Canadian and American beer, only a difference in measurement, but after a night-on-the-town in Washington DC back in the late 80's I would say American beer was much weaker then at least. We drank a lot of beer and never felt that drunk. I agree the craft beer revolution has changed all that. I mostly drink European beer now because its cheaper although I do enjoy our local craft beers on occasion.

Yeah, I’m wondering if the Molson Ice I was drinking in my early 20s was the made for America version of Tripple X. I’ll I know is it was way stronger than I was used to at the time. No, we don't actually have stronger beer. I think that was a misperception because of the taste, back when everyone drank brand name beer. It *tasted* stronger... maybe a different variety. Now we all have craft brewed beer that can even be up to 11% alcohol. The content on the label of that brand name beer is about the same between the US and Canada.

Yes, that BELGIAN beer is 9% and pretty strong. But it is NOT an American beer, it's Belgian. We DO have 9% "beer" in Canada, Unibroue comes to mind as a brewery that makes "La Fin du monde", a 9% apv beer that U.Laval in Quebec city switched their tap lines to, one Xmas when I went there in the 90s. Never seen so much puke in the toilets as that night. NOBODY figured out that drinking two pitchers of THAT wasn't the same as drinking 2 pitchers of 4.5% draft.... Silly university students, we were... BTW: We can "legally" drink in bars at 18 or 19, depending on the province, and in Quebec, it's usually by 15...

At 7 minutes into this video, you began comparing oranges to apples. You do go on about craft beers in many of your videos. Most beer drinkers are blue collar workers and they don't drink craft beers. Beer was always known as a working class alcoholic drink. So, Molson beers were bought by working class people. PLEASE STOP COMPARING YOUR WHITE COLLAR BREW WITH THE VAST MAJORITY OF BEER DRINKERS! It's exceedingly tiresome!

Well, I am a white collar professional, that’s true. I’m not rich - not nearly- but I’m comfortable and I worked my ass off to get to a financially comfortable place in my life while being a hands on parent. My wife works too. We struggle to balance it all but we are apprentice of what we have. It is still a struggle to put two kids through University with two more in another 8 years. I grew up less comfortable than I am now. And I starting drinking craft beers when I didn’t have pot to you know what in. I don’t judge people about the beers they drink just so you know. I’ll drink a bud if that’s what’s available or offered to me. I actually like regular Coors (not Coors light) but I really like craft beers and used to brew myself. I know a lot of blue collar folks that do too. My lifelong best friend is NYPD and we share a passion for beers. It’s just part of who I am and I enjoy sharing it with people. I’m sorry if it seems elitist. That’s definitely not my intent and it’s not me in general. I try to be genuine and share as much of myself as I can without giving up my privacy. It is the internet after all. Anyway, I appreciate your comments and viewpoints as always and thank you for your support.
